Norton Canes Services

I’m going to the Central Construction Training centre just off of the M6 toll in Norton Canes at the end of the month and need to stay in the area for a couple of nights. Can you get into the services from Betty’s Lane or is the only access via the Motorway itself?

There’s a Days Inn hotel on there but I couldn’t get hold of the correct number to speak to reception and as it is a toll road and not a “free” motorway I’m guessing I might have to go down to the next junction and come back up whilst paying for the privilege. Could I just dump my motor somewhere and jump over the fence to get in? I normally park up on the Road King at Watling St. when out that way so I can’t quite picture it.

Any other suggestions for a decent B&B or any lady truckers willing to put me up for a couple of nights?

Going from memory (used to live in Norton) -

There is access from Betty’s Lane (about 100 yards in from Walsall Road) but it is fenced and gated.

The fence is a full on tall security job with a sliding full height gate - so jumping is a no go.

I’m assuming it’s a pass/keypad system so I’d have thought the hotel should sort something out.

Ramada, Cannock is decent and was cheap when I’ve had to stop in a hotel near work.

Edit to add - 01543 461361 off the website.

The rear accesses are supposedly for staff, deliveries, Emergency services and supposedly hotel/lodge guests so that is your ‘ticket’.
Unfortunately locals get up in arms as they see people (usually their neighbours, thrashing through the access out of a sense of self importance :unamused: ).
Oh and building work is due to start anytime now on a £4 million upgrade of the services

Never understood why if you’ve paid to use the toll road presumably to get to your destination quicker why you’d stop at the services…maybe it’s just me

The Days Inn website says “Access also from A5/B4154 via barrier control…”

Google Streetview shows a sign pointing to the hotel via that barrier.

Nor do I.

I imagine it’s a bit of a magnet for snobs wanting to have their £5 Ginsters away from the non-toll paying riff raff.

Has to be the quietest motorway services in the UK though!!!

Thanks for the intel. but I’ve found a much better deal on the Best Western in Walsall Wood. Gotta be better than the Days Inn shoe box and cheaper too. Hopefully I won’t ■■■■ up on test day when it’s time to go for my CPCS card.
