The engine options for the Dodge LAD cabbed lorry were Perkins 6.305 & later 1962 the 6.354 also Leyland 0.350 or 0.375 which was fitted to the 9ton range with 10 stud hubs, the AEC engine was at the time only available in the 6 wheeler versions with the Albion rear end & transmission if my memory is correct. I would go for the 6.305 in the photo above only because of the style of the grill fitted, this was the grill Dodge fitted before the 6.354 engine came out in 61/62.Only my opinion though :unamused:

hi rof, last talking to george fogarty about 8 years ago,his other brother brian who did building with him is still kicking I think he is in insurance game in Blackburn.

Not my photo, found it on the net.

I bought the Dodge Truck NCB 348 new from Joe Ainsworth & Co, Montague Street, Blackburn. in 1958, it had a Perkins 6.354 engine 5 speed gearbox and Eaton 2 Speed Axle the flat and paint work was completed by KB Coachbuilders in Darwen.

Hello Mr Dennis Smith, we met at the Crofters on the A6, I own the Sam Longson S21 Foden Tipper 830 WNU.
The gearbox in the Dodge I thought was a Dodge Box but I could be wrong, the picture I posted came from Librapix along with my other trucks. When I ran the Dodge I worked for Star Paper, British Northrop, Thomas Fox Potatoe Merchants, & Duttons Brewery Blackburn

hi stanfield, what truck is the mort and taylor from Blackburn, never heard of them but hill st was where the dog track used to be. now Tesco. regards, jack preston. p.c was it a maudsley?

Sorry have not seen the picture, but Mort & Taylor were based at Hill St. there was another company called Hardman & Gillibrand based near Lloyd Bros. on Bennington St, I think they all disappeared due to nationalisation, I remember my pal Fred Brindle’s father drove for both companies during the middle 1940’s the BRS took over Lloyd Bros. and their garage was the Blackburn Depot. for BRS.

Another name which springs to mined is Harold Cartmell, I posted some pictures of Harold’s AEC’s on Librapix he is now 91 years of age and if anybody wants some history he is the man.

thanks dpickup15.i know the brs depot in Blackburn,my late father jack preston worked across the road as foreman coachpainter at Blackburn motor bodies now a church.he was made redundant when the firm closed down in I think 1968. :unamused:
