Its a long way from his regular run to Madrid? I heard it was N1 outside Madrid Northbound. Dual track on a bend ,drove into the back of stopped bus while being overtaken, but somebody on here said he had a left ■■■■■■ ,so…?

This was at least 15 years ago. Do the details matter lads? It was Stuart: he died. Drivers were sad. Robert
Very evocative pictures, Harry! Is that not Richard Mountain in the pic labelled ‘Mr and Mrs John’? ‘Mc’ is John McFarlene. The lad in front of ‘Metal Micky’s’ DAF was called Mohammed and the other lad, Joseph was really called Yussef (Arabic for Joseph, of course). I like these pictures with people as well as lorries in - when is Simon Greg going to put his wonderful people-plus-lorries pictures on here? Robert

Oh, well done. Yes that’s the article I was talking about earlier, when I was recounting the sword incident in Sale. I wrote several long-distance diaries for both Truck and Truck & Driver magazines during the '90s. I think this one was my last. Robert
Nicely written article Robert, very evocative of the place and time . . . and certainly worthy of more than a mere three pages in the mag. I was Dep Ed on TRUCK from late 2000 to 2002 and sadly we had few contributors with the same flourish of the pen (or keyboard!). We talked on the phone once while I worked there, I believe you rang to tell us about the prototype Stralis you’d seen running about in disguise. I guess it was at the time when you were operating your own Iveco?

Thanks Craig! It might have been the new MAN TGA I contacted you about. One came into the port in Tangiers in thin disguise: here’s the pic I took of it! Robert

He does also have intl o licence for trucks so wouldnt be an issue for him to get one

Interesting pic Robert, but that was before my time at TRUCK, the MAN had already been launched by the time I started at the mag. The thinly disguised TG-A (as they originally called it) in your pic was the truck in the MAN brochure pics, with the photos taken in the early morning sun somewhere in Morocco, hence why there’s virtually no disguise panels on it, aside from the taped up windows.
Thanks for taking the time to post up so many interesting pics from the Maghreb, make very enjoyable reading
~ Craig
Craig, I remember you got the 510 TG-A to test and I got a bloody ERF (sorry Robert )
TG-A was just hitting the roads when we started at TRUCK, I had an LX version on a TransEuroTest and it was the first one I had seen.
The only scoops we got were the Stralis (you) and the version 2 FH (me) yours involved a motorbije dash across London, mine pulled up next to me in the services
