swopped in my Sony Ericsson for a Nokia last week,I have had mobile broadband on 3 network for about 6 months now and have never really had a problem connecting via the Sony Ericsson PC suite.
I have installed the software for the Nokia numerous times seemingly without success, now and then i manage to get a connection but more often than not i cant.
i’ve system restored, uninstalled the drivers, reinstalled the software etc but its getting to be a bit of a pain in the arse.
the only time it seems to work, albeit badly is when i switch the phone off and then on again, then connect the phone to the laptop, but then if i want to use it the next day and switch USB port,it plays up again until i switch it off then on again.
its also running at 460kbps when it connects which is 4 times faster than the Sony ericsson was,but does’nt seem any faster than the S/E,in fact it seems at times to be slower

gonna try and update the software when i get home at the weekend off my broadband at home as it wont install it using the mobile as it needs the cable disconnected, but I did this last weekend and it was working perfectly, but since then i’ve had to uninstall and re install again!!
getting really ■■■■■■ off now.
any tips and sensible advice would be kindly appreciated.
Hi Bikemonkey,
Phones and laptops are inclined to ignore each other occasionally, I havent tried this phone but the general rule is
Install the software on the laptop first.
Turn the phone off and then connect it to the laptop.
Turn the phone on.
When finished safely remove the hardware.
The next time you come to use it you will have to do the same again from the turn the phone off part.
Other tricks.
Dissable wireless on the laptop
Check the phone connection settings
Remember 3G/GPRS connections dont always correspond to phone signal strength.
Hope this helps
The N95 is well known for having bad software, see if it can get an update, maybe the nokia website could help there, or ask your phone supplier to see if it can be updated.
i have had an N95 since they first came out. i never have problems with it using the net. when my pc isnt working i use my mobile to access normal websites. they are known to have a few faulty handsets though. they have always had a few bad ones since release and all they have done is update the phone here and there as it has got older. it might be worth sending it back and getting a replacement.
connection speed will depend largely on network and time. as the network gets busier the connection will slow down due to higher demand. same as the roads. at busy times it gets congested and slows down. take that into consideration. at times it will be so busy you wont get a connection at all
Thanks for the replies much appreciated.
I know what you mean about the busy network etc ,it was very slow sometimes with the S/E too.
one thing that im not sure of is the disconnection of the cable.I always normally use the safely remove hardware tool but on the Nokia unless its in file transfer mode nothing comes up to remove as it does’nt recognise that anythings plugged in in PC suite ■■
so i just unplug it…dunno what else to do
disconnecting the phone from the pc? i leave the cable plugged into the pc and simply pull it out of the phone. when reconnecting, plug it into the phone and open up the nokia software on the pc. the phone must be on pc suite mode though. i dont even know what the other options do but they appear to cause problems with the connection
i do this on pc and laptop with the same software (supplied with phone last year) and the same process works on both XP and VISTA
