After a year like no other where we’ve been expected to work through lockdown and cope with the pressures of coronavirus , keeping our families safe and keeping our fine nation fed and watered, not allowed a holiday because “we’re so busy mate” I find myself having to take my holidays 11 days before xmas but not over xmas because again “we’re so busy mate” of which I can just about cope with as I can see the bigger picture, but I would have expected my company to have given all of our drivers and office staff a bonus and at the very least a thank you but no nothing and yet xpo say they look after they’re core drivers, so has your boss shown a better sign of appreciation and said thanks for a job well done
I’m not holding my breath for anything myself personally.
My boss gave all of us a £50 M&S voucher at end of 1st lock down

Yeah I understand he’s lucky to still have a job after all these people have been out of jobs, but without us drivers everywhere would be stuffed because nothing would get delivered, appreciation goes a long way, even just a thank you

Think yourself lucky. I work for the same shower of pointy shoe’d chancers (courtesy of tupe )and we got presented with a bill, ffs!
They gave us a so called pay rise mid year, and back dated it to the beginning of the year. But they also took off our weekly bonus, also backdated to the beginning of the year
What with the pandemic reducing our hours, we are out of pocket on the (imposed) deal. Amounts vary, but some are looking at a bill for the best part of a grand.
So xpo’s seasonal message to their ‘core drivers’ is eff you, and have a nice day
I’ve had one day off this year… that was last week.
I don’t expect to get anything as usual, just a “see you next week” if I’m lucky.
You get paid for doing your job which you agreed at the start of your employment, nothing about a bonus would be in your contract of employment. Its the same as tips for a waiter etc , its not guaranteed , its a bonus to your wage.
I have worked for big small and family companies, never expected one and never griped if i didnt get one, always said thanks when i got one.
I have worked thru bad times aswell as good . 3 day week, power cuts and shops closing at 4 pm but still want dels before, picket lines etc}.
You have a job and probably deserve it, but you have no right to expect extra wages just for working thru a rough period.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings but thats the reality of the working man.

If this is aimed at me, then cobblers. Our bonus was written into our contract of employment, which the new employees were legally obliged to honour under the tupe regulations.

No its not aimed at you , in your original post you never mentioned that it was written into your contract, if it was then whoever allowed that tupe to be accepted is to blame.
its written so you should get it no question. I would question the company regarding that issue, although if your the only one who does you may face unfair consequences. Good luck
A tub of quality street placed where the drivers congregate was our Crimbo pressie. Tomorrow I shall be liberating a turkey crown from our cold store by way of thanks to me.
Was talking to a friend this morning who owns a smallish fleet of around 10 motors and he said he usually books a hotel for his drivers and partners and provides a free bar. Obviously this year that is out of the question so he had a bar built in their yard at a cost of around £20k and is having an “in house do” for them all.
One of the benefits of working for someone who appreciates your efforts I suppose.
Only been with my company for a month and got a Xmas hamper with booze , food etc in it . Quite good actually . Heard the drivers talk about the hamper but didn’t think I’d get one as I was just in the door so pleasantly surprised
Always get a cash bonus in a card and we’ve had a decent pay rise in the last couple of months too so all round not a bad year, definitely helps working for a small family firm.

Just be grateful you still have a job it’s very easy for company owners to Chuck the towel in given the current climate.
We got a €300 euro bonus converted to GBP and minus tax as a thank you for working through the pandemic earlier in the year but that came from head office in Germany not local level and every DHL employee in every country got it.
For Xmas we get a goody bag of some mix of chocolates and usually get one around Easter as well as a thank you.
Not much in realistic terms but it’s always nice to be given something as a thank you.
They also laid on a bit of a Xmas dinner the other day but as drivers especially night drivers wouldn’t get the opportunity to join in the rest of us got a £5 voucher for a food shop around the corner from work. A nice idea I suppose but not much use for night drivers when it’s open 8 til 430 or something like that and it’s a 16 mile trip for me to go there when it’s open some possibly even with further travelling than me.
So not the best but also not the worst and yet DHL often get slagged off for being the worst kind of company to work for on here.
So they aren’t always as bad as some expect or seem to think but it can vary a bit as to which depot you work for but think most do the same or something similar.
We also had a fish and chip van on site earlier in the year for everyone as well but can’t remember what that was for now.
After 11 Christmases of sweet f.a. I discovered an envelope in my locker.
I opened it with enthusiasm to find a card with a ‘Thank You’ on it, …I was overcome with emotion, and was rooted at the spot with a tear in my eye, after their expression of appreciation at last.
…Ok the card was one of those that you buy at the market for 99p for a box of 100, but it’s the thought (lesness) that counted
I eagerly looked in the bottom of the envelope for my 100 quid cheque bonus, but to no avail, but you can’t have everything eh?,.at least I’m valued and appreciated at last. …
(I’m being sarcastic here btw
)
Previous firms/previous Christmases…
Drivers (no wives) weekend in Blackpool all accomodation and drinks and food free,
Voucher sent up for me from Colly to a local hotel for a Christmas meal for me,.wife,.and 4 young kids.with unlimited drinks.
Food hampers of Belgian goodies,.wines beers cheeses, and Christmas fayre…with a cash bonus.
Food hampers of Dutch goodies wines, beers, cheeses, and Christmas fayre…with a cash bonus.
But the piece de resistance Rodders, and the icing on the cake,.was this year…
My 1p Christmas card.
Got a nice hand written card this evening with some cash in it as well . Was quite surprised and it was unexpected . It hasn’t been the easiest year and the boss has fought hard to keep us all in work and find new work as well .Can’t say anything about the large multi national logistics providers as I’d never work for them but small family type firms have had it tough this year and for them to go the extra mile and give their workers something extra to show their appreciation is just one of the many reasons I’ll be staying with such companies .
I remember when I worked for leggett,we got a bonus one year, but a lot of complaining went on when some drivers got more than others, some got nothing, the following year, nobody got anything!

I’ve worked for small and large companies and none are perfect.
And small companies most of them you are paying for the boss to have expensive cars big houses and holiday homes god knows where and expensive holidays.
100% of business owners don’t do it for you they do it for them and their family. Regardless of the size of the company they are all in for one reason profit and living a lifestyle of luxury while you are paid a pittance mostly compared to what a company turns over.
There will be the few exceptions and yes you do generally get treated a little less like a number at smaller run firms but there is always less job security in smaller firms. Big firms can hoover up a lot more losses when things go wrong without resorting to loss of jobs.
Swings and roundabouts mostly.
