in local rag eadt.co.uk they want to do a trial no lorries in outside lane on orwell bridge here we go again carry on like this any 2 lane motorway will be next. car folk moaning about lorries taking to long to overtake my suggestion if you dont like lorries dont buy anything then eventually the roads will be free until they try and get some petrol
or remove the stupid limiters
Typical car drivers…they hate being held up by slow overtaking lorries but think its ok for us truckers to be held up by another slower truck!!! NUMPTIES!!!
Trubrit:
or remove the stupid limiters
that would be to obvious
The overtaking ban on 2 lane carriageways will come in , and will be widespread - the only people to blame will be…
…the lorry drivers.
If drivers cannot be sensible with the limiters and cruise control then the sooner the better if you ask me. Why should 2 lorries block off a whole road for miles on end because one is fractionally faster than the other but neither will concede the lead.
Wake up and smell the coffee - behave or stay in line - for once the rest of Europe has it right!

I very much doubt an overtaking ban will come in force, mainly because no cars would ever exit off the carriageway if it was in place due to lorry drivers driving in a line a couple of feet off each others arse end. I know what your gonna say !!! Blame the limiters for them doing this?!!
So what happens when one comes out of the garage and is struggling up there about 20mph we all going to sit behind it are we. It’s hardly the best place to put a overtaking ban is it.

The europeans also know what to expect when the no-overtaking ban ends for any reason, about 60% of the trucks in the queue will be overtaking the instant they can. And its’ a nightmare, you get stuck for hour after hour in a queue behind some overloaded twerp who can barely manage 80kph on the downhill… trust me, it’s not much good for road safety. It winds up the people no sane person would want wound up… the wagon drivers.
I wish that the car driving public of suffolk, would remember that the Orwell bridge, and A14 exist because of the Port of Felixstowe. Not for them to be able to move through the county quickly. Take a look at Norfolk for proof
I can understand the point of the >7.5t restriction on the outside lane like on the A42 and A14, but I think it has it’s problems. Like when there’s something ridiculously slow in lane 1 like one of those 8 axle crane things etc, i’ve come up behind one before doing about 40mph waited until it’s clear in lane 2 so I don’t hold anyone up and gone past it, not gonna sit there at 40mph for 4miles until I get out of the restriction zone.
Listen, you’re all 3rd class citizens & lorries should be banned from the roads & all the freight should go on the railways, that’s the view of the idiots in charge of the country so get used to the idea, remember the average speed cameras on the m25, they’re everywhere now, remember the m42 outside lane ban, only the 1st of many I’m afraid, what England needs is a Lee Harvey Oswald

Agreed as they can catch the bus - ever seen a truck on a bus.
If they ban us overtaking then they need to put a ban on agricultural vehicles using the A14, the road always has some tractor or other on it, quite often pulling a 40ft mot failed trailer using a dolly axle.
And as for cars doing 40-50 MPH, don’t get me started on that.

Now I’m really not wanting to start a war of words with this, and it comes from one who has so far spent over 20 years in the industry (and counting), 15 of them as an HGV1 driver travelling all over the UK and much of Europe.
The above is the age old ‘reasoning’ given by the majority in the industry whenever criticism is forthcoming from outside, and often within, the industry. I don’t doubt that 99.9% of the general public DO understand the importance of the trucks on our road, and the possible ramifications if there was not a transport industry on their local supermarket shelf.
But what they also understand is the continual improvement that comes from questioning what we are doing and whether it could be done better - put the freight on the rails is an age old suggestion, and while it has limited merit within the current infrastructure, it is a possibility for the future.
However what really peeves the great unwashed is this attitude that all they want to do is get rid of lorries. All they actually want is not to have to follow a lorry for 10+ miles while it attempts to overtake another on a two lane carriageway - anything that prevents that will be seen as progress, and the campaign for more and more overtaking bans will become deafening while there are so many selfish/arrogant/stupid lorry drivers happy to sit 2 abreast for miles on end on our limited dual carriageways.
All IMHO of course…
agreed with Ski…
had one today on the a42 south, a driver from a certain company with a familiar green and red unit pulling a tesco trailer struggling up the hill at 45ish, i get in the second lane to get round him and soon as it flattens out he’s off like hell leaving me out there.
wouldn’t mind but i was slightly faster than him anyway but he still left me out there for at least 2 miles, how much longer does it take to knock it down to 85k for 15 seconds max to let people round then your on your merry way again while the lad u just let round wont be seen again cos hes off.
this is something that i do, especially if im freighted up, doesnt make you hours late does it, whats it gunna add?? maybe 5 mins delay over a 4.5 hour drive??

it annoys me when some truck drivers decide to over take as your going down hil!, they try and use their weight and DIPP the clutch to hit 65 mph then slow down as they hit the gradient and i normally end up over taking them again or i loose momentum going up the hill and send a ripple effect all the way down the road…

My Dads friend works for Suffolk Highways and he has had heard that the Orwell Bridge will be a trial. IF it works, Suffolk Highways will then try to trial it the full length of the A14 through Suffolk.
Won’t that be fun. Imagine the tail back on the A12!!
I’m sure when I passed my test I didn’t sign up for all this!!! I knew I would be treated like scum but Jesus!!!
Unfortunately the drivers who are complaining just don’t realise that we are doing our job to keep them in a job, fed and watered.
A driver who parks in our yard told me about a conversation he had in his local. A disgruntalled ‘gent’ was complaining about trucks on the A14 and especially overtaking. My friend tried to explain about limiters etc. The ‘gent’ wouldn’t listen the proceeded to ask why so many trucks and what we deliver?
A while later after a heated discussion the ‘gent’ brought up the subject of petrol stations and fuel protests. He couldn’t understand why when the last fuel protest was, there was no fuel. My friend said that the tankers didn’t deliver any fuel. The ‘gent’ said ‘well what about using all the underground pipeline. Thats how it normally gets there the tankers just top the petrol stations up’. My friend then replied ‘so you think that petrol tankers ride around all day doing nothing then?’ ‘Well mostly yes’ came the reply.
When my friend told me the I nearly pee’d my pants. Just goes to prove how dense some of the general public actually are.
