Nighttime Main road closures

What happened to the advance warnings of M2, M20, and A229 closures overnight?

I had to make a 10 mile detour the other night, just to get to work. :imp:

I can’t even find out at present - if the same roads are closed tonight!

(M2 1-3 OR 3-1, A229 Lord Lees-Running Horse, M20 J5-J9)

The closures don’t seem to be on the highways agency site, at least not prominently… :frowning:

It seems to be different each night, they have even been working up there on Sunday nights to.
Last night blue bell hill was clear, all last week it was pot luck which side was going to be shut!
Noticed last night sign saying M2 shut Jct 4 to 2
Always something happening on the M20, been going on for months.
Couple of weeks back they were doing both side of Detling hill.

Its almost like they are using up the years end end budget cash :grimacing:

Same when was doing the m60 smart motorway upgrades.
Half the time closures were never signposted.
One day I rang the number on the yellow boards. Asked is the m60 being closed overnight this week.
Some bloke said no it’s all open this week be closed over the weekend.
So set off and it was closed overnight all week.

@Winseer

if you use twitter the @HighwaysSEast feed is pretty good

also @KentHighways

Thanks for that. I don’t use twitter, but I can access the website OK, so job done.

I’ve even found a country lane I didn’t know existed, that connects up from Lord Lees to Lower Bell - giving me an alternative route to Aylesford that doesn’t involve going back on myself to Rochester, and then through Borstal. :open_mouth:  (thought beforehand it was a dead end like Blue Bell Village now is…)

If you have a 4wd car theres even a byway that runs from walderslade to the petrol station on the downside of blue bell hill.

roadworks.org … far better than the useless Highways website… able to change bits & pieces in the menu, view cameras, matrix info etc etc…tap one of the icons and it opens up to give dates, times and sometimes even shows the diversions…need to play around with it a bit but it’s good

To add… 10 mile detour?? Pfft! That’s nothing to the one on M4 e/b 17-16 closure last week…45 bloody minutes…missing diversion signs, ■■■■ roads and the usual stuff. Following night I went north up M5 (from Chepstow), off at 11a and straight through to 15 on M4…25 mins quicker!

No mention on Traffic Scotland, or on roadworks.org, that the A71 was closed today between Gilmorton and Strathaven. :imp:

They like to surprise sometimes - bit like M1 last night shut J25 to 23a as someone got bored and wanted to practice with their JCB (digging one tiny hole). Who needs prior warning.

Or A500 which is apparently shut from last night for 5 nights according to the signs, but they seem to have forgotten to tell the people digging it up. Or maybe they went down the pub instead.

Nothing like keeping drivers on their toes.

Maybe it was one of those ‘emergency’ closures! AFAIK, there was no mention of the M4 being closed by way of signs/dates etc but as we all know and has been said, they do like the odd surprise party or like to keep us in suspense, like when they put a ‘this road will be closed…’ sign at a m/way junction and place it on the grass in between the exit slips and main carriageway in an ‘ibble bobble’ kind of guessing game…the sigh of relief when it’s the slip that gets closed!
