I started a shift at 23.30 but because of an M25 holdup didn’t get back to the depot until 11.30 but had two 30 minute breaks. The Transport Manager said I’ve breached the night-work regulations but I obviously had to get back to the depot. What would you do in that situation?
He is probably referring to Working Time Directive regs on a night worker shouldn’t be working for more than 10 hours without signing an Opt-Out. If you sign one, you’re free to do 15 hour days, including night work etc.
Have you signed an opt out form?
Ask the transport manager what they would like you to do in the future, should the occasion repeat and watch him/her squirm and try and avoid answering your question and probably say to contact someone else in the company that has no clue on driving regs, in an attempt to buck any responsibility.

12 hours shift
1 hours of breaks
Was the rest all driving + other work

There was about 4.5 hours in driving in total but made up of 45 minute journeys and 30 minutes or so other work.
You are only doing the work that you have been requested to do. It is like someone telling you to jump off a cliff and then pointing out your injuries after you have taken the advice.
Anyone with any sense knows that to keep the 10 hour rule, then work shouldn’t be given out likely to last more than about 8 hours. This is transport after all.

So what was the total of all the driving and other work added together
