Night out payment

Our boss used to give us our night out money before we left. Now, he’s giving it to us on our return, because of 1 diver! Is this right? The night out money is supposed to pay your parking, your tea and your breakfast, but if you’re skint like me, then you’re not eating or parking in a truck stop or services. Should we be paid before we leave for the night out?

Nope night out can be reimbursed when pay day comes. It’s out of pocket expenses. Parking is not paid out of night out money.
If the boss is giving you £25 for a night out and your paying parking out of that then your a mug…

Before or after, no set rule. Also it’s for personal expenses incurred in the course of your employment. Parking the truck is not a personal expense so it’s not paid from night out money.

I get my night out (inconvenience) money when i get paid… separate from my night out expenses, parking, food etc which I have a float for. I then go to the accounts dept with my receipts and top up the float as and when required which works fine for me
I very rarely have to use my own money for anything.

Make sure that your night out money is for YOUR TIME and not for the parking of the truck and sustenance… that is a totally separate thing .

We get 30 quid which seems more generous than other places, so a little bothered about raising the issue in case he gets funny and drops the rate. A couple of us just park on industrial estates so we get to keep more of the cash for ourself, but others are actually out of pocket by the time they’ve paid 20 odd quid on the services then their meal plus breakfast. The lads used to get 19.50 for their self plus a 30 pound float for parking, but this stopped when 1 guy was putting cases of beer and cigarettes on his receipt and claiming it back. I’ve only been there a few weeks so don’t want to rock the boat before my 13 weeks trial is up. I just feel we should get it before we set off rather than moving the goalposts after we’re used to having the money before we left.

Exactly the same here, although any receipts I have get put in at the end of every month, I was given £100 float money a few years ago so live off that and then top it back up when I get paid.

Right lads, I’ve changed job and now the night out money is £19.50 paid in your wage the week after . I guess this is my own food n drink money. If I have to pay to park up, should this go on the timesheet as an expense to which I get back in my wage alongside the night out money. I’m a bit niave on these issues. Don’t know what I’m entitled to as nights out are new to me.

Should be asking your boss this.

this is what the government deem your night out money is for…

•Where the employer knows that the driver uses the sleeper cab, the amount paid free of tax should not exceed a reasonable reimbursement of:

•evening meal and breakfast
•washing facilities
•upkeep of bedding in the cab

so paying for parking should not be part of your night out money, you should clarify with your employer if he is going to reimburse you for payments you make for parking in services, at the end of the day that is their choice.

Some companies will not pay for parking at all and there is nothing illegal about that, but they should make this clear at the start.

Some will pay if that was the only place available due to hold ups ect but that would be their choice not yours.

We are on monthly pay and get £25 night out money and £5.75 meal allowance if we are away from the depot for 12 hours.
We have to pay our own parking at the time, so say this is £20 (with the sneaky meal voucher  ) we get the recite, then at the end of the month put an expense claim in.
This is then paid the middle of the month tax free seperate from our wages, which is handy to top up the 3 weeks of famine
So for the above I would claim £55.75 for the one night (of course £20 is out of my pocket initially).
If I parked in a layby or free parking it would be £30.75. It adds up and is welcome two weeks after payday

I wonder if this new fangled night out allowance will ever catch on over here in Ireland, somehow I don’t think so… :unamused:

Some people should count there selves lucky if the parking is payed for them, I get £21 a night which I’m out 4 nights a week & my employer will only pay for parking as a last resort

You should not have to pay out of your own pocket to park their truck. Perhaps a few parking fines may get them to appreciate secure parking. However, I always try to park on the customer’s yard. 1, it’s free, 2, it gives me a lie in in the morning and 3, it’s an alarm clock if I sleep through mine, lol.

You lot sound like you have it handed to you on a plate, I’m out 4-5 nights a week, I get £21 a night, if I want to park @ a truck stop/motorway Serv. I have to pay it myself & if I don’t the boss just deducts the parking fine when I comes through from my wages, so I end up parking were I can

Plus if I want to use the M6 toll I have to pay that myself as well
