Harry Monk:
Maximum payable tax-free is £26.20. There is no minimum amount, a haulier could pay nothing for nights out if he wanted.

Quite Correct in a haulier could pay nothing.
As far as I am aware irish and European hauliers don’t pay night out money its just a UK Thing

Advice needed, is there a minimum amount of money that you get for a night out, I’m sure I’ve heard the is a minimum.
There’s a maximum, but no minimum.
There is no maximum figure either. An employer can pay as much or as little as they like (subject to contract terms). But if it’s more than £26.20 (current figure for a sleeper cab) it will be subject to income tax.

Indeed, but when talking about night out money, it’s usually taken as a given that we are talking about the maimum level before tax kicks in.

And no doubt a few will be. Anybody brave enough to fess up to doing nights out for nowt? I get £29 if I do one which isn’t often. And parking paid.
Radar19:
I get £26 flat.
Tax free?
If they start taxing us on it I won’t be doing any.
I stop in hotel if they want a receipt least I be able to park on car park.
Be cheaper than thurrock anyway.
I get £26.01 (the ridiculous penny is the result of the last percentage pay rise) and am not taxed on it.

All Polish,Lithuanian,Latvian company. For this reason company pay wages just about 400 euro plus pay about 1200 euro tax free money for driver.
Back in the days of 70s ME work
Drivers got equivalent to minimum wage (taxable) then maximum expenses (tax free)
Everybody happy
Our lot pay £26.20 per night and it’s called subsistence
If we pay for parking and it shows a meal voucher on the receipt, then they will deduct £5 from subsistence payment.
If it says parking only, then we are reimbursed for that amount.
We are told that hmrc will not let us claim for a meal, as that is what the £26.20 is for.
However, unlike MSA’s, all the truckstop I’ve used , the receipt simply says parking only, and this usually includes a subsidised meal.
Happy days.
I get £27 for night out but dont get taxed. And parking paid if i have to but try and get to a depot. They have everything there and can ask for a van if you want to go and get take away or just the shops.
What appears a legitimate question and none of the regular ‘click’ have commented?
Dixon international in Dublin pay there drivers 130 euro a day clear for European work, and they also pay for rest away so some do 4 weeks on the trot so that’s 910 euro clear a week for 7 days away
The night out money or overnight money is all incorporated in your daily and weekly wages and that’s all wrong
You would want to be sick in the head to work that much for so little money but there’s one born every minute
Night out money is actually called subsistence allowance. This is provided to everybody who needs to work away from base. There is no minimum or maximum, just a tax free maximum. The tax free amount depends on whether cash is provided or receipt is obtained. HMRC has no intention of stopping or changing this allowance. What it is doing is ensuring that companies and drivers at using this allowance correctly and not using it in lieu of wages and therefore depriving the exchequer tax revenue.
Examples of this are companies saying that they claim for parking and then tell drivers to park in a layby. Drivers who get £150/£200 a week in subsistence and have only spent £30(£20 of it on beer).
If a company gives a driver money then both parties will need to show how it is being spent.
I hope this is clear.
Darkside:
What has changed is recently the HMRC have got there teeth into Night Out money, and will randomly check whether the night out was essential or not.
Whereas a while ago you could pay 5 nights out whether the driver was in his cab or not, to make up the basic, you now have to prove if asked where he was. Within a radius of base you can now pay night out allowance but it has to be taxed.
I am wondering if at some point they will chase meal allowance payments which are currently tax free.
That will be Stobart’s stuffed then. £75 a week meal allowance…
We get £27.50, which is £22.50 plus £5 meal allowance
OVLOV JAY:
We get £27.50, which is £22.50 plus £5 meal allowance
Although be aware that HMRC make it clear that “night out money” includes meals and so meal allowance should not be paid alongside NOM (for the income tax exemptions to apply).
