Night heater problems

Hi, can anyone shed any light or guidence as to why the night heater on my motor takes about 20 attempts to get going?. When you turn it on it starts up straight away and then almost immediately cuts out. We dont do many nights out and before we take it in to the garage i wanted to make sure i was operating it correctly first.Once it s going it works really well. For the record if appropriate its an man. Thanks.

Blocked inlet?

Ken.

Might seem obvious but just a few things to check:

Is it set on timer instead of manual?

Is the thermostat temp set correctly (not too low)?

Is there a master switch on the dash that needs to be on?

check diesel feed might be air getting in .

There will be a small fuel pump on or near the top of the fuel tank.
These are prone to failure.
You should be able to hear a regular clicking sound from it as it pumps fuel up to the night heater.

Nick

it is normally pubic hair or an errant sock, pull of the filter, pick out the hair, and you will be as warm as toast tonight,

very rarely do night heaters go wrong these days, if the exhaust and inlet pipe are in place and not rotted off or split, you can feel if the pump is working by a tick, if it is smoking it is firing, maybe whip the plug out and give it a clean.

I love night heaters. :sunglasses:

In order, I would check the inlet is clear, check that air is not being drawn into the system, and then turn my attention to the glow plug.

Simply contact Mellor Auto Electrical via phone or email regarding your heater fault, one of our heater experts will then talk to you regarding your heater fault, free of charge. In most cases we should be able to identify the problem over the phone…

What is you drive ?
We had all sorts of problems with our MERC actros units , one had his replaced 3 times !
Am on my second and it’s still not the best heat out it

could be that the chamber is gummed up, when it finally gets going turn in up to max and keep it like that for an hour to burn off the deposists it likes to gather when used in a not too cold outside temperature.

Thanks for your help everyone.

And the result was?

Ken.

When I had a similar problem I was running on fumes, so I fuelled up but the problem remained, so I ran the engine at the same time as switching the night heater on, left it for 5 mins then it worked fine.
The system must have had air in it due to the tank being nearly empty.

some have a small fuel filter in the inlet of the fuel metering pump that blocks up
