If you are one of those people who thinks it won’t happen to me, well, IT CAN AND IT DOES:

Although this chap is certainly not a great example of a professional driver:

PLEASE THINK ABOUT IT.
Just twigged, it’s the same bloke…
So we wonder why drivers get a bad name.
Reading the first report, i can certainly feel sympathy towards the persons in the car, one lost her life, the other seriously injured. I also think they should take some responsibility, being towed at between 10 to 15 mph, on a major highway, probably with no warning signs on the back saying ON TOW
which all those being towed are advised to do. The transit van was either a friend helping out, or a good samaritan.
With regards to the driver, it seems that he had been on the blower ( obviously the police checked the phone records ) prior to the accident, but not necessarily what caused it. I believe that tiredness played a great deal into the situation, tiredness also causes lack of concentration, and i believe, more so than a phone call, i truly would like to see statistics relating to serious accidents, actually caused by the use of a mobile phone.
On reading the second report, it seems that this same driver, who caused the death of a young lady from Romania, was in fact a rogue operator/driver, who had on occasions driven for up to 24 hrs, or at least been on duty ( my words, not the report ) and mentioning the report, it states that the driver was exceeding the vehicles speed of 55mph, whereas it should have stated that he was 5mph above the speed limit for that stretch of road, ie: The A14 ( 50 mph ) and a truck is limited by law to 56 mph.
At the end of the day, he got his just desserts
I think it’s best if I don’t comment.
Three and half years eh. Not bad for a life !
I have a black box app on my phone and it’s always stuck on the front window recording when i’m driving so i can never be accused of using it for texting of phoning.
Some people can use phones whilst driving, Some can’t. Some can’t control a car whilst using hands free, But it’s perfectly legal.
Not everyone using a phone whilst driving is dangerous, Just like not everyone that dosn’t use a phone whilst driving is safe.

Confused?
The point i’m trying to make is this:
Just because they dream up a law, It dosn’t make people better drivers, It dosn’t make them a safe driver. It’s wrong to tar everyone with the same brush.

I agree to a point, but texting while driving is always going to be a bad idea, I don’t care who it is or how good they think they are.
