Have a look at the Newcastle side of the river & you can see the the old office on wheels, plus the elevators I mentioned for unloading the Prudhoe lime wagons , on the Gateshead side there is the Scarab owned by Tyne Tees Steamshipping Co Ltd, Wonderfull memmories dont you think, The green Albion standing in front of the shed, was originalley Baxters, then F.Short & Sons bought it Reg 723BBB. I drove it at Baxters in the 50s then old Ernie Wyllie drove it for Shorties, it was a decent motor with a coachbuilt cab. built by Cawthorn the Albion Agent, Regards Larry

Aye how things have changed, I remember getting the Blue & Red Atki. in the picture of the Quay, which is outside Baxters Garage, it was brand new 1960, I was as pleased as punch as the old saying goes ,the first new wagon I got, great.

]I know this thread was initally about the old Quayside but there’s a lot going on around the place just now, what with Spillers coming down and the work on the Ouseburn it will be hard to recognise the place soon. I stopped in Ouse Street today and peered over the wall down into what was Steenburgs yard, all gone, even the yard surface has been ripped up although the direction of the yard hasn’t been changed and I could spot the place I almost put Dads unit in the burn! Strangely the warehouse area where the lead used to be stored looked much smaller than the actual buildings seemed back in the Sixties. Don’t know what they’ve made out of Maynards warehouse, its either offices or expensive flats, they’ve cleaned the chimney though so must be keeping that. Just hope they don’t mess about with the archway, oh and just incase those Yuppee sorts that will end up living there think they will be living in an exclusive modern development, I saw a dirty great Geordie RAT dissapear down the drain! Some things never change. Franky.
