Volvo FH tractor units appear to be selling in large numbers , just how good ( or bad ) are they , lets have some honest comments , warts and all .
I think most are just replacements, they must have sold a lot around 2010/11.
Sunroofs are great…if you like inefficient sunroofs…
Does it take the dust out of the air in the cab though? Mine takes a right beasting from the dust.
Apart from the hand brake which is a small switch on the dash with a red light, which auto releases when you put in gear and apply the gas peddle.
Very quite and a excellent drive.
Fuel wise brilliant! About 500 km’s with a loaded “dd” both ways 140 liters of diesel.
on the run:
Fuel wise brilliant
Not as good as the new Actros though, great gearbox on the new Volvo, great mirrors with small blind spots, I like the trailer brake on the right hand stalk, just a good all round easy to drive motor.
bald bloke:
Not as good as the new Actros though.
Not had a go in the Merc yet!
Where I work we have on trail one truck of most brands. MAN, Iveco, Scania, Renault, Volvo, waiting to come are Merc & Daf.
The Volvo is my favorite so far!
And the Iveco not as bad as I excepted! Its got a fridge for my sandwiches drives ok too.
Any new wagon is nice to drive, it’s how well they last…

Who do you work for ,commercial motor on the truck test team

42 tonnes out and around 38 back.

No but seriously if you’r a haulage firm its in your best interest to find the most efferent motor to run. And the best way of doing that is to run them for your self, cannot rely on what the dealers tells you.
So for once I actually agree with my employer and think it a good idea. The only problem is when the driver figure out which ones they like there driving style mite change? I.e drive the one we like nicely to get good fuel efficiency and the rest like we just stole them
So fingers crossed for the new Volvo
Lol, devious, on the run. Think they may notice that eventually though
i’ve been driving one since october, very quiet and comfortable, good visibility, … its a 460 but does ok at 44t
my downside list is,
that park brake… why ?
drivers window doesn’t always go into the slot at the top.
not a lot of up/down range on the air suspension which can be a nightmare sometimes with having no run up ramps…
a couple of times the “infotainment” system has frozen for no reason… the fix for this is to do the double lock power saver to kill all the electrics apart from the tacho, it then resets everything… ( a bit like doing a restart on your pc.)
beats them scanny things hands down.

I dont know how you get to have these trucks on demo ,i had a few years in the office working on the fleet side of things ,we phoned up everybody wanting demos when the fleet was up for renewing and out of the lot all we got was daf that came back to us with a unit on demo,i really pestered the rest but kept getting fobbed off,in the end the fleet manager got nearly 50 daf cf 410 with the auto gearbox from hell because the rest couldnt be bothered,we didnt even get a visit from any of their salesmen,a big deal lost
seth 70, there all on 12 months contract hire and maintained by each supplier. It’s also to do with maintenance costs, they don’t seam to under stand if they used the main dealer they will rip them off to change a light bulb for example!

Be sure to check the air suspension-controller again. The new one is different from the old one, so when you think you are just adjusting the height normally, you are in fact changing the ride height. If that makes sense. I have a mate that had the same problem, but when he checked the controller again, and used another button it works like a charm!
