I passed my CAT C in January 2016 and have CAT C1E under acquired rights. I have joined an agency and have been getting experience of driving up to 3.5t multi-drop since that time. I am in my late 50`s having made the decision to have a career change.
As you all know the vast majority of Agencies/Companies are looking for experience.
Can anyone give advice and pointers how to get my foot through the door? I would have thought that the insurance costs would have been lower due to my age and that I have been driving over many years.
You are a new driver as far as they are concerned ( you car don’t count ) but age could be against you as well
Get in said car take some gear with you go visit all the transport companies in your area
Sorry but my crystal ball smashed so can’t give any more help then that as don’t know where you are

Extend your leg towards the door. If the door is closed, gently push it forwards with your foot.
Then ask for a job.
Get out there and do some leg work.

Mind the step at the other side

Join a few more agencies and let them know from the get-go that you are only interested in Class C work, and not to bother phoning with offers of 3.5 tonne work. It’s the time of year coming up when drivers go on holiday so there will be opportunities.
It would help if we knew where you were. Someone local to you on here may be able to point you toward something.
I would say jump when the agency says jump, but keep saying I want on the bigger stuff.Show them that you are reliable and sign with all agencies in your area.We have all been where you are now.

Don’t forget to ask how high.
In my experience there’s two types of wannabe drivers; those who’ll go out and find a job for themselves and those that can only just about summon up the strength to register with an agency.
Which one are you OP?
Jewsons in ALL areas must be desperate as they’re always advertising in the forum job section on here
Jewson wage is 21,500 a year 7am til 5 and every other sat i did the phone interview with them and didn’t hear back as I said the wage is too low
Thanks to all those who have given advice. Incidentally, I am looking for work in the East midlands area.
i will try not to trip up going in or coming out the doorway
