april :sunglasses:

I believe it’s this April sometime.

April, could be the 6th of as it’s ringing a bell, but it might be the wrong bell!

Here you go.

I have also read this week at the same time this comes in that the speed limit on dual carriageways is being raised to
60 mph, fact?

Yes this is correct, 60mph as of 6 Apri on DC,50 on single carriageways.

Not been approved yet,

Lorries could also get a hurry-up on dual carriageways with a DfT consultation launched to raise the limit on these roads to 60mph from 50mph. The changes would see lorries travelling at the same speeds as coaches and caravans.

If the consultation for dual carriageways gets the go ahead, the laws will change at the same time but until then, the existing limits continue.

Page 7 of this month’s T&D, I quote:
“HGV’s will be able to travel up to 60mph on dual carriageways from April, ensuring lorry drivers have speed limits “Better suited to a modern transport network”.
The announcement from the Department of Transport comes after it confirmed last year that HGV’s will be able to travel at up to 50 mph on single carriageways.
Both new speed limits will be introduced on 6th April”.
“The increase applies to vehicles over 7.5 tonnes on roads in England and Wales, unless specific lower speed limits are in effect”
In the January issue of “Transport News” there is a report on the raising of the speed limit on the A9, with a road test taken before and after to see what improvement in journey times were achieved, with an average of half an hour off the run from Perth to Inverness.

If someone tells you its coming in on the 1st April best get a second opinion

Eh? They are reducing our speed to 35mph (30 if there is traffic behind) and only allowing speeding up at long clear stretches so no one can overtake?
