New Scanias with twin wheels

I’ve noticed there seems to be an abundance of new unregistered 6x2 Scania’s for sale with a twin wheel tag lift yet they’re plated for only 44 tonne. Note that these are 6x2s and not 6x4s, so single drive. What is the reason for having a twin wheel tag at 44 tonne? I am not seeing any advantages over the traditional single wheel lift. You’d have more unnecessary weight, more unnecessary rolling resistance (reduced mpg), more unnecessary tyre wear and more unnecessary expense.

You’re unnecessarily correct

Single wheel tag axle is the best option from 6x2 options in my opinion. You don’t have any headache with track rod ends, wheel alignment as you would have on a midlift and you dont have the increased expenditure on tyres, fuel consumption that you would have on a twin wheel tag.

Best option is a 4x2 if you don’t carry the weight.

Apart from the fact they look better (imo) dealers know they will have no bother selling them as they are more desirable, and no self respecting Tang would be seen dead in a single wheel tag setup

I’ve heard claims they are more stable and you can load a bit more on the fifth wheel with a twin tag

This goes for a 50-ton setup of course, with unlimited lift in winter conditions, naff all point on a 44t combination.
