I am attending an interview for a company called Delboytwo’s Trucking and there is a test and it goes like this.
Question
Draw up a legal driver’s hours schedule for the proposed Delboytwo’s Trucking new route, taking breaks
and rest as late as allowed legally and by the constraints in the scenario. Show the
start and finish times of each activity and schedule the trip to achieve the earliest
return time to Hull. For the purpose of this test the start day is Monday 6am
Scenario.
The vehicle is loaded overnight in Hull and must make deliveries in the order shown to:
Newcastle 200km from Hull (not using the Humber Bridge)
Edinburgh 175km from Newcastle
Glasgow 50km from Edinburgh
Carlisle 150km from Glasgow
Manchester 200km from Carlisle.
The distance from the final delivery point in Manchester back to Hull is 150km and the Humber Bridge is not used.
All vehicles are preloaded before the start of the trip for each route. Drivers start work at 06.00. 15 minutes is allowed at the beginning and end of each shift for vehicle checks, refuelling, paperwork, etc. Each delivery takes 30 minutes and the driver is required to assist. The average speed of the vehicles is 50kph. All vehicles are fitted with sleeper cabs. Breaks and daily rest periods may only be taken at base or at Delboytwo’s Trucking delivery points which have working hours of 06.00 (opening time) to 18.00 (closing time). Vehicles are not permitted to enter or leave Delboytwo’s Trucking premises outside of these times.

Hows that?
have a look at it again Rog the something your not think about.
Vehicles are not permitted to enter or leave Delboytwo’s Trucking premises outside of these times
Just spotted it - the last bit has the driver entering the hull base yard after 1800 !!
The last part would need to be changed to -
1430 - 1515 other work = unload at manchester + end of shift paperwork
1515 tue - 0600 wed = full daily rest in manchester yard
0600 - 0615 other work = vehicle check
0615 - 0915 drive
0915 - 0930 other work = end of shift paperwork

OK but that’s not the earliest time is it. you can take a break at a delivery point a delivery point is not the base
what would you do if a company did not open till 6 am you would get there as or just before it opened
Answer. Give all the delivery notes and the keys back to the transport manager/boss and go and work for a company that isn’t so stupidly restrictive on where and when you can take your breaks and rest periods.
lest say your rest was only till 02:45 Tuesday when would you be at carlisle at 6 am to you get it now
how does the driver get out of the depot when it does not open til 6am as stated in yout first post?
you also stated that drivers do not start til 6am
monday at 6am did not say every day and the delivery point is not the base think of the base as the operating centre.
Vehicles are not permitted to enter or leave Delboytwo’s Trucking premises outside of these times, Hull is the base. there is no restriction on getting to the delivery point for when it open or leave a delivery point when closed there is only a requirement to have your rest and breaks there.

Sorted, next quiz.
based on that then, you would not want to work for Delboytwo’s Trucking then

and by the way it a test of how well you can plan a route using certain constraint in your work hours

Tell me DEL, how does a driver get to any delivery point before 6am when they cannot leave the previous delivery point before 6am ■■?

The deliver point on open at 6:00am and close at18:00 the constrains of the base with is hull its not the delivery point. so if you look at that you must get back to base before the base closes at 18:00
look at this way at a delivery point you have to take your break or rest, so if on Tuesday at 02:45 you started work did your checks you would leave at 03:00 arrive at 06:00 as the delivery point as no constraints on leaving or arriving.
the question is laid out right, it the way your not reading it go back an read it then you will see
there is a clear definition of delivery point and base, base is Hull base as constraints Hull is where you started and hull is where you’ll finish
You have stated that the delivery points cannot be entered or departed from between 1800 and 0600 so HOW does the driver leave a delivery point at 0245 ■■?
Or did you mean that these delivery points are left unlocked for breaks and rest but simply cannot be delivered to in those times ?
Think this test was actually part of the National CPC case study from about 18 months ago. Only the company name has been changed to protect the innocent

Rog read this and it will make sense
Vehicles are not permitted to enter or leave Delboytwo’s Trucking premises outside of these times
Hull is the only base, premises, operating centre, delivery point are just that delivery point but your rest as to be taken there and your break, there is nowhere in the scenario that said you can not enter or leave a deliver point, only that is not open till 06:00 and closes at 6pm the time also refer to the base for the purpose of the constraint
In me changing the name of the company, I thought the company in hull was delboytwo’s trucking company but it was not the case the deliver point were delboytwo trucking and hull was the transport company ( which had no entry or exit restrictions) that was tasked to to the delivery.
So Rog your first go was right in you list except the break should have been take on arriving at Glasgow and you finish time would have been 6 pm
