ive been offered a tramping job driving for pentalver cannock on containers, they seem to have a half decent fleet & the money dosent seem too bad(£425 basic then milage & tip/load bonus & £22 night out),well after earning less than that for the past 2 years lol,but i just want 2 know about the job, both on the boxes & working for pentalver so any help would be good, thanks
It’s owned by Maersk Shipping. Probably the biggest shipping company in the world.
workin boxes isnt for everyone, you"ll need patience for 3 to 4 hr handball [kippin time] import 40 highcubes, you will often sit loading all afternoon then a 4hr run to fxto and finish between 21:00-22:00.Lot of patience required for port of fxto seaforth s"oton and tilbury. Its good genrally clean work all you do is open rear doors, good units if working for the right co"s.the basics always abit low because its genrally based on 3 x 15hrs 2 x 13hrs and some times sat run ins.Its ok if you read a lot of books and i"d say carry a dvd player.A fridge is handy if your loadin used electricals for africa as these can take 6/8 hrs and a bit of grubs handy. You will be asked to do strange jobs with weird planning ,going to a town to load as your mate leaves there with an empty identicle box to load were you just traveled from.dont try to work it out dont question it and you"ll get on fine.If your doing 3 x 15 2x 13 and 4 ngts out take home should be £550-£575.Those on my job who pull their fingers out are doin £37,000-£38,500 ish.I think workin boxes is ok,providing you can put up with constant long days, dont get wound up and go with the flow
a member on here called Tappy used to work for them, might be worth sending a PM over to him.
Good luck in the new job though ( Lucky sod )

Dunno about any of that, but they have a heck of a lot of boxes piled up in their yard. There is a KFC just up the road if that helps.
Oh yeah, and there is an over population of speed cameras on the A34 and A5 near them so be careful.
Tappy used to work out of Tilbury depot, not Cannock
PM Fez, he still works for Pentalvers out of Cannock
Did a bit for them many years back, just going to Southampton and back to Cannock and a bit more for Atkins, trunking to felix or Tilbury mainly. Didn’t mind the night trunking, but the day work loading was pretty boring when it’s not your motor as has been said earlier.
Good luck to you, I’m a firm believer in trying all types of work as you will never know until you’ve given it a whirl.
I thought they went Polish?
thanks very much europleb but i think i need to know more about your job & when can i start,■■?,
Those on my job who pull their fingers out are doin £37,000-£38,500 ish.

that would make the wife a little more happy lol

That’s reminded me. Didn’t they build a container high-rise for them in the Cannock yard or am I getting them confused with someone else.
No ,you are not confused but it was further down the road South side from the main depot. Pentalver gave 'em all the easy jobs like 1 drop & pick-up FX in the middle of the night.
well ive been here a few days now & all seems ok,no 1 chasing me???thats a good sign, cant do the hours(overtime)i want too tho?? have to ask after 12hrs but they only pay for the 1st 11,so you have 2 do 13hrs to get 1 hrs overtime ■■? there are a few different contracts,nights/days/roamers,the days & nights are on mearsk which seems not a lot of hours at work but then not much bonus either, some of the fleet is old & past it but mainly newish tackle(all scania),but could really do with topliners/space cabs for the fellas up & down the road to make life better■■?

Why is everything you say a question? :s
as the lads above have said get plenty of books, truck mags, coffee’s books should keep you amused for wks?.
as for the job, well the better you speak to goods in /empty yard staff the more friendly they become?,some of the queues in soton for empty’s on a friday can be very long (or was 2 yrs ago),soton will shut if you cant see the box from the straddle carrier when its foggy, like it was first thing this morning,as is well known in this trade, that no sooner someone ■■■■■ in ipswich ,that will shut felix when very windy, above 25 mph winds? and will bring very long queues on the a14,in the stacking system.
if you can put up with waiting for hrs on end,you will get to see some very strang loads/unloading going on and some not so great loads like waste paper out of crayford/blindside reverseing.
enjoy it summers not far away
I believe Pentalver have the Currys contract at Newark so be prepared for long waits but tipping a box in 4 hours at least you will do better than some of their drivedrs waiting for keys and a run to do.
the Currys job at Newark will more than likely be drop & swap jobs
they took the contract from RCL and that is how they did it
