Hi,
Hope you don’t mind this shameless plug; We (Exelby Services) have just opened Coneygarth Services; a new HGV filling station and truck park at Leeming Bar,A1(M) JCT 51.
When the A1 was upgraded 5 years ago our existing Londonderry site got it’s junction taken off and drivers had to do a 3 mile detour to get to it. So we managed to buy some land at the new junction north of Leeming Bar and develop a brand new site. It’s design is based on our Golden Fleece services on the M6. 7 lane HGV forecourt and a fully secure, gated access truck park with spaces for about 90 HGVs.
We know a lot of drivers have been asking if it has a cafe. We do have planning permission to build one but unfortunately we have to reserve the area of land where it’s due to go for some temporary road access during some local road upgrades next year, so the cafe has to be put on hold for now. But we do have an on site Subway which will be opening in two weeks.
Most major fuelcards accepted, Keyfuels, UK, AS24, IDS, Morgan, euroShell, Eurotrafic, Allstar…
Hope to meet and greet some of you to Coneygarth soon. If you visit the site it’d be great to get some feedback from you. Positive/negative its all useful to help make it a better site for you.
DAVE Y:
No point parking overnight if there is only a Subway on site.
Better than no food provisions at all, no? What are the opening times of the Subway Mon-Sun please? And do you have a map link to where exactly you are? Your original post is a little vague for those unfamiliar with the area.
I would like to say a big thank you for doing this. It must have been one hell of an outlay and a big gamble to take. Passing it the other night it looked absolutely amazing and spot on for HGVs rather than being a haphazard mashup as is usually the case.
10 min walk to the village where there’s pubs. Pizzas and mcdonalds.
It’s just off the A1 at Leeming take the turn for northallerton/Bedale and leeming bar ind est and it’s just off the roundabout on the east/southbound side of A1.
Sounds OK, but why did you not concentrate on even a temp cafe rather than a Subway, just wondered.
Will there be a bar with Sky Sports in the future, how much to park (will it include a meal voucher when cafe is up and running) and has the old Londonderry parking ceased now?
Great to see lots of interest in it. The location is in the north-eastern quadrant of the junction. Come off the eastern roundabout and follow signs for Leeming Bar ind’ estate. Then take a left at the next mini roundabout to the entrance. The postcode for the site is DL7 9DD.
As we can’t build a cafe yet we’re talking to the owners of the Corner House Hotel pub in Leeming Bar village which is 10 minute walk about accepting our parking voucher there. Not ideal but at least it would be another alternative to Subway. There’s also a Pizza/takeaway place just round the corner from the pub. We’re not operating the Subway ourselves but they reckon they’ll start of with 6am till 11pm and see how they get on with that. Not sure how we could run a ‘temp’ cafe. We don’t operate the cafe’s ourselves at our other sites. We tried it ourselves a few years back and couldn’t make it worth while.
What we are looking at doing is building a ‘drivers lounge’ exclusive to parking customers only with a few sofas, tv, somewhere to put your feet up etc…
Parking price is £17 including £5 voucher. We’ve got 4 gents and 2 ladies showers in the shop building, and by the end of November we should have free complimentary WiFi across the whole truck park. Thats getting installed in the next week or two.
Now Coneygarth is open we’re closing Londonderry tomorrow.
As for our shop prices, we’re not Aldi but we’re no Moto either. As an indication £2.10 for a Costa coffee, showers £2, £2.29 for our baguette sandwiches, £3.79 meal deal including crisps n drink. And if you’re your parking up early/leaving late a 4pk of Fosters cans will set you back £3.75
Also we have planning permission for a truck wash also which is due to start construction next year.
Ok the new place is more modern than the old but parking up from a fiver to 17 quid is a bit of a hike is it not. I’ve seen me stop there 2 to 3 times a week on a couple of occasions so instead of £15 it will be £51.
I realize that sounds like a moan, but it’s a valid point, and not every firm pays for parking.
, Is the old site compound park being sold off, or could it be left open for those just wanting nothing more than their time off.
I will more than likely use the new place but it was just a (maybe bad) idea.

Let’s cut to the chase here Rob, private entities don’t open new truck stops to cater for truckers, it’s all about the income from the overnight parking and I’d call them liars if they tried to convince us otherwise. Nothing wrong with that in itself, they’re in business to make money and frankly I’d do the same, but your point about the dramatic increase in the fee is still valid, nonetheless.
