New Freightliner Revolution

Apparently this is the new Freightliner that’s hitting the US market. I reckon its the same people who made the actros now designing the new Freightliner. Personally I think it looks ugly, and although the concept is somewhat good some of the Ideas i reckon are just bad for instance replacing the mirrors with cameras, not the best Idea I reckon!!!

What you think?

Cheers

It’s just a concept vehicle so it will pobably never get on the market.

Mercedes own freightliner so could be the same design team

I saw that in Louisville last year, got a weird single occupancy interior, all modular, so you can swap it all around to suit, the one at the show had a bunk set up in it, all very clever, but not very practical, probably rattles like ■■■■ too if any other Freightshaker is anything to go by

Totally agree, although I’m not a driver I can see how un practical it could be. For me no mirrors alone being replaced by cameras I could say would be a big problem, especially as the arms holding the camera look like they could easily be snapped off not to mention if one camera fails due to faulty wiring etc making the truck unusable for work until the problem is fixed whereas with a mirror should it get cracked etc it’s still useable until you get back to base etc depending how bad the damage. Although I think the truck OS is a good idea, will be good to see if anything like this does come onto the market in the future! Although I wonder when truck manufacturers are going to get round to designing a truck based off of what a driver would like in a truck

Cheers

It looks disgusting imo.

The camera thing is irrelivent. For anyone thats ever driven a freightlienr cascadia will know that the very moment you dare use your wipers with screen wash, mirrors, especially the drivers side one gets plastered with the muck from the screen and renders rear view absolutely impossible. I have to clean my mirrors several dozen times a day at the moment and its always a trade off between being able to see forwards or backwards.

Its beyond me how this problem can have gone un rectified for so long, Cascadias have been in production since 2008 at least and even 2013 models suffer from the same problem. I dont know if theres anything on the market that fits to the edge of the windscreen or the side of the mirrors to solve the issue but I often see Cascadias with bodge jobs, obviously devised by drivers driven to desperation by the issue.

I like the idea of a back door. With that you dont really need any side doors and there fore no steps. That would stop all the a-holes who hang on your mirrors, climb up your steps and stick their head in your window. Winos, police, hookers, dot, etc.

The original Renault magnum concept was like that no normal doors just one at the back. Someone told me the reason it never made it to production was if you jackknifed three may be no way out. Don’t know if there’s any truth in that.

Its a problem with all Freightliners imho. Im always cleaning my mirrors off several times a day, and im driving a 2013 M2 (yeah yeah i know its a 5ton), but our Century Class Tractors have the same problem, the wipers on them are junk. they dont clear the top of your screen very well at all.

hi
doesnt the old truckers trick of tying a bit of rag around the mirror arm work then. always kept my mirrors clean :open_mouth:
cheers diesel

it would only work for 4 months of the year here. the rest of the year it would be frozen solid.

It would be a much better idea for the boffins at Freightliner (and the rest) to concentrate on making sure their current trucks could manage to pass by a dealership without breaking down before they start poncing around with fancy models for the future :unamused:

LOL…Touch wood, my current truck hasn’t had the slightest issue in the 8 months I’ve had it…appart from the not being able to see anything in my mirrors the second I use screen wash on my wipers and it flicks the entire amount of water and muck on the screen straight out to the mirror lens rendering it immidiately devoid of any use as a visual aid. Thats even a step backwards as even my old Freightliner Classic didn’t do that, nor did the Volvo I used to drive, its just these flaming Cascadia’s.

The Coronado mirrors are ok it’s just the rest of the thing that is the problem.

With all the problems you’ve had with that, I’d be having “The Eagle Has Landed” on the side of it, rather than anything to do with flying!

Yeap , my truck has been broken down in Brandon since 11.30 this morning :unamused: How can the manufacturers get away with marketing this utter junk ?
