Hi all, First post on here. I have been reading posts on this forum for a couple of months, seeing a lot of people in the same position as myself. I passed my cat C in January and decided to look for work straight away. I then realised I would need a digi card, so waited for it to arrive and then started applying for jobs and sending my CV off. As most people have said on here it does get disheartening when you don’t get any replies or the agency asks you to ring them after you have six months experience.
A local haulier for who I worked for in the past ( I drove a 7.5T lorry doing multi drop for just over a year) contacted me about covering someone who was off sick driving cat C. He now wants me to go full time, Agencies are now ringing me about positions and after a successful assessment I have been offered a job with one of the biggest companies in N. Ireland.
So all I can say to those who think that there is no hope of getting a job is that just keep trying and the offers will eventually come, just like busses, all at once.
Congratulations on getting the job. There was a time it was all doom and gloom and I still wont promise that everyone’s going to walk into a decent job straight away - but it’s so much better now.
There’s much talk that from September (the cut off for grandfather rights driver cpc) there will be many more jobs. Personally, I’ll wait and see before I get too excited!
Enough rambling. Congratulations again and hope it works out well.
Pete

Yes davy did my test in boucher through swift training. As I said in my first post, with persistence and the right attitude you can get a job. R barkley was looking class 1 a couple of weeks back and the add didn’t say that experience was needed.
Aye know swift alright. There only down street from me stockmans lane. Here there good. I did my in boucher with guy david bettie. But doing my class 1 with llyods. Appartnly there good too. Thats all ya can do mate is keep knockn doors till sombody gives you chance. You going for your class 1?

Yep thats them there. Some nice lorrys
There are jobs out there for the new lads you just have to search hard and long enough to find them! Have contacted a few companies who’ve had vacancies and enquired as to whether they took newly passed drivers on and most of them said they would give the new lads a start provided with a driving assessment etc. My HPT retest a week on Monday, Good luck with the training & job hunt lads
Cheers

Not in any hurry to do my class1, maybe will do it in the future. Happy driving class 2 at the minute.
Indeed mate, like I’m working for a large firm at the moment in the transport office. So I’m somewhat learning a little bit of the craft now, but it isn’t driving. And they know my feelings of it, and as i’ve seen how the drivers get dealt with it doesn’t put me in the frame of mind to want to work there as a driver but never say never I suppose. We’ll see
Cheers

How you finding class 2? How you finding useing tacographs? Im not 100% on them. Know the basics 4 half hours driving 15min break and 30 bfore 4 half hours driving. 9 hours driving day. 10 twice week is that basicly all you have to know?

I think your worrying to much dave. Doing multi drop in N Ireland you will be ready for a break before you have 4.5 hours driving. If in doubt just ask an other driver, most people i’ve met are quite helpful.
Lol ano john prob am worrying bit to much. Suppose its one them things ya get use to. Just the unknown mate just lol
