New Drivers Act for HGV's?

MADBAZ:

  1. Re-testing.– (1) Subject to subsection (5) and section 5, the Secretary of State may not under Part III of the M1 Road Traffic Act 1988 grant a person whose licence has been revoked under section 3(1) a full licence to drive any class of vehicles in relation to which the revoked licence was issued as a full licence unless he satisfies the Secretary of State that within the relevant period he has passed a relevant driving test.
    (2) In this section “relevant driving test” means, in relation to a person whose licence has been revoked, any test which–
(a)falls within paragraph (a) or (b) of section 1(2); and
(b)is a test of competence to drive any vehicle included in any class of vehicles in relation to which the revoked licence was issued as a full licence.

What this says basically you can retake your test in any catergary you held at the time of disqualification, it goes on to say you can’t regain your license by taking test in a catergory you didn’t hold.

ie if you held A, B & C cats you can retake any of those but you can’t do C+E to regain your license.

Thanks mate

We’ll I rang them, told the lady our various problems and she said it doesn’t apply to us unless you haven’t passed your car test for two years.
She even went to the supervisor who stated it’s two years passed your first driving test that this applies.

Reading a wee bit more (I must get a life) the act seems to support what she said Niknak, it says that a probationary period starts when you pass your first test, which in my mind is the first test you ever take, there is no provision for seperate catergories. ie if you pass your car ‘B’ at 18, then your truck ‘C’ at 19 and C+E at 20, your probationary period ends 2 years after your first test (car), you do not start a new probation for any subsequent catergory. (without looking deeper I assume the bike test is included but excludes the CBT).

And to clear summat up that came up on another website, your license gets revoked if you attain SIX or more penalty points ie: more than 5, not more than six as some peeps seem to think.

Thanks MADBAZ, I presume this includes the bike catergory as a whole even if you have been driving over 2 years.

NikNik:
Who better to get your information to than from the Traffic Police, afterall they enforce it .

Some of them enforce it but don’t actually know what’s in it - over the years they have come on here, been proved wrong and stormed off in a huff
