As a new pass class 2 and class 1 what can I expect to earn and then after how long would I expect it to stay low for? 12 months?
Average wage will depend on where you live, but as a general guide (pre-driver shortage pay boost anyway), class 2 would average 24-27k per year, class 1 averaging about 30-34k per year (these figures may have changed somewhat over the last 6-9 months, and could vary a lot depending on how severe the driver shortage is in your area)
There are different types of work that could see you earning significantly higher amounts, for example doing a class 2 job that involves lots of handballing loads would usually pay more.
Generally speaking, experience doesn’t dictate pay, a driver doing general haulage on class 1 will earn the same regardless of whether they’ve had their licence for 30 years or 30 minutes. There are some jobs that will require you to have a decent amount of experience before you would be considered for them, and these may pay more, but in most cases these also tend to have some form of specialised aspect to them, eg, tankers, vehicle transporters, oversized loads etc.

I got my first class 1 job this year, £800 a week so just over £40k basic, then extras such as night out allowance, early start pay etc on top. Like the previous poster said experience doesn’t always dictate pay - I went straight onto the same wage as everyone else, and from what I see this is usually the case
