New Class C with Convictions

Hi

I am about to get my Car licence back after a 2 year ban for drink driving. DR10

I have never held any other licence apart from a car. I am planning to go for Class C then E Licences

Can anyone tell me if there will be any difficulties in applying for a Provisonal Class C with a previous Drink Driving conviction?

Will it need to be considered by the Traffic Commisoner?

Hi Marshall12,

I can see two possible problems…

You’re correct that the Traffic Commissioner might want to consider your application a little more closely than one from somebody without a DR10, but you’ll probably be able to get past that hurdle with some remorse and grovelling.

The other point I’d make is that you might have difficulty getting a start as a new driver with a current DR10, so maybe it would be an idea to have a phone around a few firms/agencies to sound out whether you’d be likely to gain some work.
I don’t know the answer to that one, but it might save you from paying for training and then having no return on your investment. :bulb:

I just didn’t know if there was like any set time period after a disqualification.

The employment part is not an issue as I already have access to HGV`s thankfully.

car insurance is going to be sky high, worse than a new driver. I think you will find it hard to find employment with a newly added dr10. Maybe in 5 years but not now. I have had a dr10 and trust me you will need all the luck you can. My advice is to look into it first and get the answers for yourself. Mine has expired now thank god :smiley:

DR10 is making a £900 to my car Insurance

I wont be taking a career in truck driving so future employment is not a big issue at this time anyway, Already employed and will have the use off HGVs

However I am keen to find out the difference a DR10 makes to the companys insurance.

I will update this at some point after I have received decision about Provisional C

Realistic reply as all company insurers have different policies on this issue so only the boss or company admin would know
