Well its happened… I finally became a fully qualified class 2 driver at the ripe old age of 46, now signed up for an agency and looking forward to starting work.
Joined this site as I noticed a lot of very helpful people use it so I’d just like to say hellooooo to everyone out there and any advice would be appreciated
Hi and congratulations on your pass.
Agency work seems to be the only way in this day and age.You often get messed about big time, and often get offered the jobs their regular drivers don’t want. Rubbish hours, physical graft (food deliveries!) etc. It can be very frustrating at times but try and accept any work they offer you, to gain experience.
Best of luck pal

Can’t really add much to that.
So welcome and congrats on your pass
Thanks a lot guys… like any job… the new guy gets the crap
Well done Jammy Dodger, you could have a look on the VOSA website that lists all the hauliers in your area, some that you thought did not exist but were there all the time.
The site lists who is adding to their fleet or expanding their business and after some more drivers, it is the applications pages to look at.
Try farms in your area, and keep buying the local papers for that very small advert that you can not spot.Contact the firm as soon as you see the advert and arrange the interview.
Have a peep at the owner drivers sites too, even he/she will need a holiday or take sick leave at some time.It is a waste of time phoning and e-mailing firms, some have a cabinet drawer full of hopeful applicants.
Eures and Gumtreee for jobs and Rapido.

Not necessarily.
But if you go in with that in mind, then anything better is a bonus

Cheers Toby… nice bit of info there matey
Well done on the pass roger the dodger. Now the fun begins as the others have said. Any jobs you get use as a learning step and one by one you will feel more confident and comfortable doing the job, and the most important thing is to get the truck back in one piece and the drop made (not necessarily as fast as the old hands) but that will come with time.
But most of all enjoy.

Rubbish.
Get a real job and join the movement to help eradicate agency parasites! You are what the agencies feed on. Cut off their food supply. Watch them wither and die.
…and congratulations roger the dodger, have a glass of whiskey or nine.
