New Card

My card stopped working a couple of weeks ago, sent off for a new one got it yesterday, took 10 days.

Do I need to keep my print outs I made for the time I had no card, I presume not?

Absolutely you do need to keep them

You should have made two paper copies for when your card was defective.

Drivers must always have 28 days of records.
Operators must have a year’s worth of records.

So when the paper records are over 28days old then they can be chucked away by you.
I personally might be tempted to photo and store them anyway, but that is not actually needed.

Open to correction of course.

Keep them, we are in the zone for keeping the 56days which starts on 1st Jan

To clarify, you must keep the printouts with you for at-least 28 days, but unless you printed out two printouts at the start and end of each shift they must then be handed into the transport office.

If you did two printouts at the start and end of each shift and handed one lot into the office then you can bin your copies after 28 days, however if you only did one printout at the start and end of each shift they must be handed into the transport office as they are the only records of your driver activities.

Yes they keep for 28 days - so now through to @23rd Dec, then get them out again so they can show the full 56days from Jan 1st. DVSA have made no suggestion there will be a lead in time from 1st :flushed:

You’re right it does appear that the new rules coming in January 2025 are retrospective, as it’s now about 46 days away so it may be better to keep the printouts for 56 days before handing them in

Many thanks, I did spend a while on Google and couldn’t find anywhere were it said I needed to retain the printouts, but makes sense.

Surely the employer will have a record from the vehicle?

The records from the VU won’t identify the driver unless the drivers card is inserted.
