Hi im john and i am looking to become a hgv driver any hints or tips please feel free to help me.
Hi john welcome to the Forum, Have a read in this post you will get an idea like what to do to achieve the licence.
patience is a Virtue its a long road you gotta have to stay focus lol.
Make sure you don’t part with money to a broker. If you’re not sure if you’re talking to a broker just put their name on here and you’ll soon find out!
Make contact with a reputable trainer who will look after you start to finish. Visit the trainer and satisfy yourself with what is on offer so far as you can. Otherwise use a trainer who comes highly recommended.
In the meantime, ask questions on here. There are some very knowledgable folk on here who will try and help. You will hear from the doom and gloom merchants who will assure you you’ll never get a job. You will also get the opposite. Up to you what you believe.
All the best, Pete
Thanks looking to book my lessons within the next month with gtg in glasgow
Hi, I’m not In the newbie position myself but from what I’ve heard and read newly qualified drivers are finding it hard to get work. Don’t believe all you read about a driver shortage. Alot off places will want 2 years experience from the driver too. I take it you haven’t yet started your training. Make sure when you do you take time to research your local training providers, have a look around see what kit they have and take an assessment drive before you part with your cash. Do NOT go via a broker. They tend to take a nice cut off your money and send you miles away or to a training firm with very poor equipment or instructors. Read through the forums and you’ll see as to why avoiding a broker is important. Once you have your liscence I would suggest spending an afternoon driving round your local yards and making your face known, instead off throwing a handful off cvs in a post box. Your initiative and enthusiasm will be remembered long after a cv gets binned. Lastly enjoy it and have fun. The jobs not all its cracked up to be but there are a damned site harder jobs out there. Good luck .
thanks for all your help was on the phone to one company it was an agency they said they could guarantee me a job ect for £1300
There will be many guarantees till your names on their books. You may get lucky but I would see if you can find a small firm to get in with they can be gems if you find the right one.
As said already, there will be some who bring the doom and gloom. If you want it enough, you’ll get it.
I can think of 2 other people on this forum other than myself who’ve managed to find work while under 20. It’s possible, it just doesn’t come on a dinnerplate.
best of luck
Thanks very much everyone I spoke to gtg today and I am going through with everything. I am aware it’s does not come on a plate but this is really what I won’t to do and I will make it happen
Best off luck to you then. It’s nice to do something you want to and not because you have too. Your enthusia will go far. Ill look forward to hearing when you pass best off luck .
anyone know of any companies that are taking on aand putting them through there training ?
