Need Practical Training for C and C+E - 20 miles from Luton

I’ve driven articulated trucks before in my country and in Europe. Now, I’m getting a C+E license here in the UK. I’m looking for an owner-driver or fleet owner who will let me practice on his trucks. I just need to get used to the right-side steering wheel and brush up a little on my driving skills. It seems to me that driving schools charge exorbitant fees per hour for this type of training. I’m looking for something more reasonable. But at the same time, an onwer-driver or fleet owner who’ll let me use his trucks will make more on my training per hour than moving regular loads. Plus, you can utilise your trucks that otherwise might not be used at the moment - even half a day. The only requirement for the instructor is to have held his C or (later for) C+E license for 3+ years. If you are interested, please let me know. I’m based in Luton.

Do you currently have a CE on your licence gained in an EU country

No, I need to get C+E in the UK starting from C. I was driving in Europe under TIR.

Hi vicden , hope you don’t mind me asking but I am intrigued. Are you a non EU citizen? (don’t you just love that expression? :smiling_imp: ) Do you have any form of truck licence? Not sure what that means when you say “I was driving in Europe under TIR” What vehicle were you driving in Europe “under TIR”? What does that mean?
TIR regulations concern the movement of goods / freight, not the licencing of persons to drive the vehicle transporting those goods! Otherwise, along side having a C+E driving licence, there would be a TIR licence and as far as im aware, and I stand to corrected, there is no such thing. Just asking

TIR is a convention for the movement of goods but you still need drivers to move those goods, so they have visa provisions for non-EU truck drivers. They put a visa sticker in your passport and in the comments of those visas there they write “TIR driver” and with that visa non-EU drivers driving under TIR can enter Europe and drive within Europe. You can get more info about that from these documents:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TIR_Convention
germanyvac-ua.com/english/Truck.html
ec.europa.eu/home-affairs/polici … _22_en.pdf (search for TIR within that document)

If you need right hand drive experience then I suggest doing it with a car then going down the usual route for obtaining C and then CE

Yep, im aware of all that. The point being is that if you already hold a non EU licence to drive an articulated truck (in Europe referred to as a C+E vehicle) and have experience in driving that type of vehicle then the cross over from left to right hand drive should be a piece of cake for you. No different from a Brit driving a left ■■■■■■ around Europe and beyond! It will be the theory test etc that may stump you initially but not the driving. Good luck
