I’ve seen an ad for a local firm, RMS. I know they’re the off-shoot of a European firm, who were bought by their own management when put up for sale. they own the port of Goole, and Gunnes and Flixborough.
However, I’m not in the know about what it is their road transport division do.
Is it skellies with ISO containers to fixed sites, to storage yards, or what?
If anyone knows, please bring me up to speed with what they do.
The reason I need to know, is it’s a case of apply with CV and covering letter. It’d be wise to know what I can say that is relevant to their business.
i go to guness and flixboro wharf alot and they seem to do alot of flat trailer work with steel i dont think they do euro work oh yeah they do timber as well all on flats… belting work in this weather.
I used to sail on a German ship on charter to RMS. RMS means “Rhein Maas und See Schiffahrtskantor” and they’re from Duisburg in Germany. All the RMS trucks I’ve seen were flats and maybe a few curtainsiders but I’m not 100% on that. Mostly carrying steel if I remember. I dont know much about how they run here but they kicked all the remaining German seamen of the ships they directly own and replaced them all with Poles and Russians, some of which you’ll see at Flixborough wharf if you do that job.
All my ship ever carried for RMS was steel, occasionally they do have timber shipments too but their main area is definetly steel without a doubt, anything from coils, to gurders to sheets. It was a very boring ordeal having to sit around in Duisburg-Ruhrort for 3 days while we gradually loaded our aluminium gurders for Grove Wharf (RMS use Grove alot too) then we usually reloaded either out of Grove or usually over in Goole. My ship never went to Flix for some unknown to me reason.
We have alot of dealing with RMS, in all ports. We carry mainly steel, but also load our Tautliners from them with timber, coil (down-ended, or top hat,), and wire rod in coil, or even paper on the reel. We work back into the midlands, but RMS’s own motors cover all areas, not just local or shunting work. Also they use both flat and curtainsided trailers. I have seen boxes being loaded in Flix, and dropped/collected in Goole.
A few points to note.
Flixborough. A good bunch of lads and lasses, Take a good book, there’s usually plenty of time for POA’s there.
Gunness. Swift and efficient
Goole. Again staff, both Office and Dockside are helpful and efficient.
Turnaround. time in all ports obviously depends on what you load. Yesterday , loading in Goole,I was in the bay for 11 minutes, but tuesday was in and out of the dock within 9 mins.
Obviously the above is based on my own dealings with RMS as a sub-contractor, and as such have no idea what they are like to work for direct.
RMS are only one shipping company that run into Goole, they own trucks and sub contract a lot of work. Goole Docks is owned by ABP and one of the main operators is Seawheel, running a container service from Rotterdam and Duisburg.
I did few a weeks there on agency. Nearly all of it was steel. Start 7am, go to Goole Docks and load up. Deliver it and go to the aluminium recycling place at Warrington, load up a 25 tonne slab and take it back to Goole.
Nice motors, dead easy work, no rushing and friendly office staff.
