Our fleet now has these Navman sat navs where you can send and receive texts to/from the office.
The sat nav part of it is crap. The free text is a good idea though.

My company is trying one from Navman and one from TomTom to compare them. They are both linked to the CAN system, so that it can monitor your fuel consumption, idling time, harsh braking, even going round corners too fast. The TomTom has a link to the DigiTacho to monitor your activities, eg breaktime, POA etc. The text thing is a good idea but I find it a pain in the rear end sending a reply. There is a pre set message stored on both that you can send to say you have done your daily vehicle checks. As for the satnav side of it, I can only comment on the TomTom one. I only do local Multi Drop, normally in a decker, so I have a good knowledge of where my drops are, where low bridges are, and what roads I can take. I found the TomTom constantly tried to take me on unnecessary routes to avoid restrictions that simply didn’t exist. I suppose if you didn’t know the area, you wouldn’t know any different though.
Yeah, the Navman asks if you’ve done your checks and you send the details in. And it has pre-written orders like, job accepted/ok/please call etc…
