My Romanian Experience

animal:
We did look for a map but 4 of us didnt find 1 Glen & I also looked for a sat nav Glen does speak a little German we asked in a garage if the local Mini Market ( basically there Halfords ) if it was open on a sun he said yep so we did go round only to find it closed

Vern if you follow the E68 to Aral continue along that road till you pick up the E81 that will take you straight in from Hungry if you want to stop there is a nice truckstop 7 k from the border

Hope your trip goes well

Yes I have learnt a lot & yep I am a lot wiser thanks yep I did make a lot of mistakes but is that not how we learn

What’s done is done ang, you don’t have to keep explaining yourself. Leave it now and let the thread drift

I did try & call 02 customer service but guess what my phone didnt work so couldnt simple as that

I speak a little spanish but did find most of the Romanians very helpful tbh & a lot could speak some English

Sorry but didnt go to much off beaten track as not enough time really but poss should have done

But as I have said before I done what I thought was right for me at the time

No no no Harry it has to be the rack :astonished:

That’s a win win situation

The critics get there joy and Ang gets a bit taller

Well the person that originally phoned me & told me about this is still yet to make a post :unamused:

But you found that you have no sat nav in the train - you crossed few more countries before going to Germany (where everything is closed in Sundays by law, except for fuel stations and some basic facilities, good to know in the future).

Yeah, and that does not help you, but for that you was brave enough to speak about it tells me that you are willing to learn on your mistakes… If I had my own company I would give you a job, you are honest and after that disastrous trip it can only be better

That’s why I spoke about phone box and using access number from abroad, but let just leave it. I was not willing to comment on your performance, I was just fed up with all these guys who were claiming that you did your best: you didn’t and you know that yourself, what’s the point for other guys in proving that it was impossible to do better?

hi animal first of a ll well done for being honest about mistakes you had thr gutts to post. how i do love all these clever ■■■■■■■ who know it all critise everybody who tries. you find them on lots of sites just waiting to put the boot in to everyone who as a bit of bad luck or tried and they never made mistakes oh no never good luck to you ang keep posting regards rowland

I could do this job sat on my head!

Animal has a valid point about atlases and roads that are there on the map but not there when you get there,i can remember atlases that would show a future road being built and not yet constructed, some would show the completion date, and some would not.
They may have printed a new road being built, and ran out of money to start it,but it stayed in the atlas, that would get anyone lost.

Toby, I heard a rumour that you couldn’t find your arse using both your hands without getting directions

I have read this thread and it has been funny but talking about being wise after the event is total crap.
If Wayne initially and Ang later on had applied just a smidgen of common sense this fiasco would never have happened. You dont get far without it.

Well when I got back from the funeral and started work. My Sat nav had gone missing from the van, so he had to buy me a new one. :unamused:

I did Romania without a hitch. Got my vignette at Hungarian border no problem. Sat Nav said some of the information and map detail may be incomplete…It wasn’t. I went TO the door at each of my 4 drops. Yes the roads are not the best in places, for the best part they are OK. Just not many dual carriageways until near Bucharest. Dodgy drivers throughout the country. There is a liberal sprinkling of truck stops, plenty of fuel stations. I saw signs for telephones everywhere. In all it was a beautiful country with ropey looking places the same as everywhere else! Only drawback is it takes so long to do a realatively short distance.

I am in a wild countries now as well

Sat nav and mobile works perfect. And forget phone boxes, there is a free wifi in every village pub around here  You can just park outside it and use your laptop

Iav have never heard so much ■■■■ in my life I live in Romania and been driving down here for 20yrs for for differnt companies u have more chance getting a problem London
