My first day class 2 driving

I’ll stand by what I wrote.

It’s a mistake I made a while ago, but not one that I’ll repeat.

“You must exchange it (the pass certificate) for a licence showing your full entitlement within 2 years of passing your test, If you do not do this you will lose your right to claim entitlement to drive the catagory covered by the licence.”

Yes we are all agreed now. You can drive with your pass certificate but only up to two years. Then if you dont have your licence you will have to take the test again.
Anyway - what newly passed trucker would not want to get his (or her) hands on the full licence as soon as possible. I know I did - couldnt wait!

As far as im concearned youve passed your test and thats it, you can drive the vehicle your entitled to drive :grimacing:

So if Freds theory is correct, youve gotta take time off work when you have your address changed, etc - that could mean 3 weeks off work :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

When you get your licence back its backdated to your pass date, if you suposively wasnt allowed to drive till you got it back, they would date it from the date you recieve it   :bulb: :bulb: :grimacing:

My sentiments exactly! What would be the point in waiting up to 3 weeks (Or longer?) Besides, if your company has paid to put you through the test this would negate any benefit to them until you actually have the licence to drive?

Mothertrucker is right…with the two years…(or whom ever said so)…

Fred get on the blower to the DVLA…find out proper…

I was that eager when i passed my class 1, i took it all to swansea myself, that way you get your licence the next day

Extract from The Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) (Large Goods and Passenger-Carrying Vehicles) Regulations 1990 My bold and italics

4. A person who desires to obtain the grant of a licence shall–
(a) submit his application not more than three months before the date on which the licence is to take effect; and
(b) send with his application
(i) if required by the Secretary of State, a certificate, in such form as the Secretary of State may require, that has been signed by a registered medical practitioner not more than four months prior to the date on which the licence is to take effect,
(ii) if required by the Secretary of State, any ordinary driving licence, Northern Ireland driving licence or existing licence held by him,
(iii) a pass certificate showing that he has passed the test within the relevant period for the category of vehicles which the licence applied for will authorise him to drive, except in the case of an application for a provisional licence or where he is entitled to the grant of a licence by having held a previous licence as set out in sections 89 and 89A of the 1988 Act

You have two years in which to send your pass certificate. Until you have sent that in, along with a medical report which meets the necessary criteria you are not licensed to drive LGVs.
I hate to be labouring the point here, but legality is important.

BTW You can’t take a CE test without producing for the examiner a Valid C licence. A Provisional plus C Pass Certificate isn’t enough

Fred’s ‘theory’ doesn’t extend quite as far as Delboy would suggest. This is purely about the requirements for adding entitlements to a licence, not amending an existing one.

read all the regulations here opsi.gov.uk/si/si1990/Uksi_19902612_en_3.htm

one of the women in the transport office (when I worked for wincanton), found herself in the odd position of having to retake her car driving test, seems due to some personnel curcumstances she forgot to send off her pass certificate to DVLA within the 2 year period

the examiner took my licence & sent it away when i passed my class 2 & told me to carry the pass certificate with me while driving until my licence came through.

Your missing the point Fred, you keep your certificate now and when you pass your test the Examiner takes your licence off you and processes it all for you!

The only thing you cant do is learn to drive a Class 1 until you recieve your Licence back with your Class 2 entitlement on, which then youve got you provisional for class 1, but your perfectly within your right to drive a class 2 vehicle until you recieve your licence back.

Althouh i took my class 1(august 2003) pass certificate to swansea personally on the day i passed, as i was too eager to have the licence with the class 1 entitlement on, but when i passed my class 2 (july 2003) i took everything down the agency the next day they took photocopies and supplied me with one then i posted it all off and i was out working within 2 days   :grimacing:

Well done, but

Oh sorry Rob, missunderstood you there - Nothing like being thrown in at the deep end eh?? :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

I don’t mind being thrown in at the deep end!

Besides it teaches you very quickly what the job is all about. I’m used to the long shifts having done the coaching in the past, the only thing I don’t want to do is live at work…youngish kids and that see.

After saying that I’ll do the hours and do the hard graft, anything is better than being employed as a civil servant…

It used to get to me sometimes not being at home much, but not being out at work is a bit weird too. Still only been two days and got a job on for tomorrow so things are not all doom and gloom.
