Does anybody remember Murkett Bros of Huntingdon.
Latterly, they were on the ring road and were a Vauxhall car dealer.
Previously, 1950’s, 60’s 70’s they were a prominent Bedford truck dealer and supplied lorries to local hauliers such as C.W Bridge and Edwards Bros, who had a big fleet of S type & Tk four wheeler tippers.
Any memories of them or any pics of the wagons they supplied would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Mark
Purely by coincidense this Leyland l just put on my scrapbook thread was supplied by Murketts

Never heard of the company before personally, hope its of interest.
Cheers Marc.
Thanks very much for the pic,Marc.
Miurketts were a big player locally.
Although they were a Bedford dealer they supplied quite a few other makes to their customers.
It was interesting to see that they supplied the Super Comet and I know that they supplied at least one new ERF 8 wheeler to a loyal Bedford customer who needed a bigger tipper.
Cheers Mark
Hi Mark,
I have just been sifting through a stack of Commercial Motor mags from the 60s and 70s, there is a full page Bedford/Primrose ad. in one of them showing one of Edwards TK KG converted 6-wheelers with an insulated body, there is also one of Helletts TK Bedford bulkers, which would have been supplied by Murkets, (who were also the Vauxhall/Bedford dealers in Bedford)
Have a look in the Huntingdon library archives, although it’s time consuming most archives offices have been donated loads of interesting pics from local firms when they’re taken over or go out of buisiness.
All the best for the New Year,
Nick
Hi Nick,
Thanks for your response.
Be great if you could post those two articles.
J.L Edwards & Edwards Bros were big Bedford users.
Helletts were also loyal Bedford users until they needed bigger vehicles.
Murketts would also have supplied other local players including Jack Richards and St Ives Sand & Gravel.
Cheers Mark
Mark,
Apologise for this one…I forgot all about it
. I hope it was worth the wait.
As with most scans of newsprint it’s not brilliant, but 'tis better than nowt, even if it does tone down Edwards lovely shade of brown
