What sort of a operation were Peppers from clowne more transport or machines ? Were they involved with mullens ?

I think this is an open-cast coal mine operated by Mullan Brothers Ltd of Chesterfield. (I believe these were referred to as “quarries” rather than mines)
Snowy day, open and unheated cabs, and not a high-viz jacket in sight !
Look at the gent on the far left peering over the edge - I bet he hasn’t filled in a risk assessment form !

This is the company seal from the now defunct Mullan Bros Limited, in those days all companies had to have a seal.

A E Evans had some Chesterfield based drivers int 60s and early 70s and they got lifts several times with Mullans from Hazel Grove when on dodgy nights out.

My first job in 1966 was in the Manchester Tax Office. Brother Andy worked on the 9th floor and I worked on the 3rd floor, Albert Bridge House, Albert Bridge Street. Manchester 3. Among other companies, my floor was responsible for the tax for Clayton Aniline and West’s Piling. Also, the company that Ian Brady and Myra Hindley had worked for, though I can’t remember what it was called. It was soon after they were caught and a huge subject of discussion for the middle aged ladies on our floor. I was 18 and it didn’t touch me as it did them.
We lived in digs at Heaton Moor. We used to walk up to the A6 and wait for the bus every morning to take us into the city. There was always a constant stream of Mullan wagons going by from Stockport direction to Manchester City centre. I always felt that a lift with one of them would have been a lot quicker than the bus!

Watch this space then Chris ,I will be getting some photos of my great uncles fleet ,they did a lot of carrington power station loads for mullens ,the initials on the lorries were WPT which I thought was his ,but not so they were Peppers apparently .

I always wondered what happened to them Dan,used to see them int Avenue Plant amongst other places when I worked for A E Evans. I thought maybe they’d disappeared into British Fuel Company,like Burnett and Hallamshire and Thomas Black.
