MSA parking.

We’ll fully embracing this MSA malarkey I did the standard thing of pulling me curtains around and ignoring everybody whilst I surf the tinterweb when this guy backs in beside me and leaves it ticking over for 5, 10, 15 minutes, so after being very British and tutting loudly I simply got out and fired my empty fridge up. 30 seconds later just like a magician he’d vanished. Result. Fridge back off now.

Nice one!

I wonder if that would have the same effect on the compulsory 30 minute tickover merchants at 3 am?

Euro collections…

They probably have agents that work on a commision only basis for their respective countries.

As an aside, with careful planning and a good boss, it’s possible to end up in the Travelodge or Premier Inn at an MSA for little more than £15 -£20. If the boss pays the parking charge as part of the room rate, the truck is automatically paid for 24 hours in the truck park.

Sometime talked money from foreign truck more easy than from UK truck.Because UK services can sold this penalty to for example Polish recovery company.Burt in most WE country recovery company have to many right .They can easy arrest some property or make company bankrot.

Could of been worse Maoster ,I ended up in the pit stop Tuesday night ,never again :open_mouth: ,my mate says I want thrashing for not going to Upton or in to Worcester!

I never got the chance to park at Upton, what’s the attraction?

Everything but a shower ,£7 parking for those who pay ,a nice little town by the river with pubs and takeaways .

What’s the score at Worcester nowadays Dan ?
I remember reading a couple of years back that the local Gestapo council put the parking rate up really high to discourage trucks, so I aint been back since.

Has it changed and is it the same old park…Down by the riverside?

(That was a question btw, not me bursting into song  )

We have an 1800 collection at Broadheath every night Robroy, often I get it and so pass that lorry park often. It’s still beside the river near the arches and is usually full of trucks. Not sure about the price hike though as I’ve always got a loaded fridge on so don’t really want to park there with it roaring away. I usually head for either Droitwich or that big layby near the Copper pot (?) pub for the night.

I’ve never paid at Worcester.

UKtramp:
I haven’t parked in an MSA for years, mate of mine did a few weeks ago and also said he was lucky to get a spot. Full of left hookers as I think they don’t pay or they get a reduced parking rate. No idea if this is true or not. Toilet facilities were decent as were the showers, last time I used one they were awful but then it was only a tenner.

It amazes me how many foreign trucks pay to park these days - MSAs or truck stops. They must have changed their attitude cos a few years ago you wouldn’t see any paying, they’d park anywhere to avoid it.

Copper Pot ?
That one’s passed me by.

When I was a real trucker back in the day. I never paid for MSA parking, my boss did.

I do miss my free junk food voucher.

I’d take a truck stop over an MSA anyday.

Yep

With popular truckstops such as The Red Lion at Northampton and The Stockyard, it is a shame that they can’t expand and make them much bigger.
Nimbies and land owners next door, won’t allow expansion.
If above places were three times bigger, they would still be full up by tea time.
Lack of parking for London is a national disgrace, just the ones on the M25.
What is needed is a few mega ones that take 300 trucks or more.
When operation stack is on for Dover, park up before, to wait it out.
Chuck in fridge plug in, laundry machines, games room, gym, bar, hot meals, and even Portakabins with bunk beds.

Perhaps its the difference between driver and operator. If I’m loaded every night I’ll pay every night. Yes £28 hurts, but not as much as the £250 excess on the Goods In Transit insurance.

I had to use Leigh Delamare eastbound the other night on my way back from Swansea, paid the £25 (with £10 meal voucher)
The showers were pityful, no lights, flooded and cramped with nowhere to hang your clothes.
Managed with my shower use fillipo follopo’s on me feet, just stuck a pair of shorts on after and got changed in the cab decently for the next trip to claim my meal.

A ‘varied choice’ at the Eat and Drink Co settled on the half chicken , chips and peas which looked ok.
All well until I went to get the eating irons…no forks and only one stained knife, by the time the very uninterested girl turned up with fresh cutlery me meal was cold. asked for a fresh lot and it came back obviously zapped in the microwave. The coffee was at least hot…well hot in comparison to the meal !

there were plentiful parking bays though…I wonder why!

4 nights out a week, 112 quid over say 50 weeks or so is one hell of a parking bill…5600 ish?

Still better than insurance claims two or three times a month. I’ve had three attempted break ins in two weeks. It’s not worth the risk.

:open_mouth: Where are you parking exactly ?
Sounds like you’ve just been unlucky, 3 break ins in 2 weeks seems a bit excessive to say the least.
If valuable loads I use truckstops or other depots.
Mines something like 2 attempts since about yr 2000
but I’m selective where I park such as secret little locations on edge of towns that I have used for years, well lit estates where others park …and definitely no lay bys.

One was Leeds Freightliner two others were those little hidden places I’ve been using since julius ceasar was a Lance Corporal.

Only ever had damage or attempts at theft when parked in services or truck stops. Never on an industrial estate, you obviously park in incredibly stupid places.
