HI Big Trucker
He said he can live with it he’s been to a lot worse places.
will post a diary and let you all know how we get on.
Rocket

hi rocket
thanks for replying, just got outa bed ready for night shift,so i,ll read them websites tomorrow, and perhaps do a bit more saving, hope you & your hubby& kids have a wonderfull time ,treat it as one big adventure, put it this way you dont know till you try and england aint going nowere so you can always come back, but what you have said sounds like you wont have any probs . like big trucker said please keep in touch a lot of people interested, hope you have agreat time all the best …jako& family

Rocket,

Do your own thing, listen to advise being given, use any good advise given, but just get over there and live your life how you and your husband want.
Yes, maybe your husband will be away for a few weeks at a time, yes maybe his three days off will really be two days,we adapt and survive, you’ll work around his time working and his days off.
If nothing else live the dream, your children will have a brighter future in Canada, and on those odd days when home sickness creeps in ,just think of the reasons you left the U.K.
Some people have the need to be home every night/Mon-Fri/7-5pm,some people need that reasurance, others take a gamble, some win, some lose.
Theres a old saying…it’s better to regret the things you have done…than regret the things you hav’nt done.
good luck to you and your family,

The Gent…The voice of reason.

Good bit of advice from Big Truck there: read the diary’s of Steve The Bulker!

We did … and it’s one of the main reasons that we have put the ‘Canada thing’ on hold for now.

I really hope it works out well for you, Rocket. The above is one of the main reasons I really hope you do manage to do a diary for us, including all the bad bits as well as the good.

Hi the Gent
we will go for it and make the most of things, as you say and we do too our kids will have a better brighter future in Canada, and to those who are hesitant LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO HMM AND AR :exclamation: We’ve got friends out there who took a chance and love it. I’m sure we will too, my dad always regrets not going to australia when he had the chance, I’m not going to do that and think in years to come what could’ve been.
Thank you for your positive message.will keep you informed on how things go

Hi marcustandy
well he is only one of many, and we’re not baseing our plans on someone who doesn’t like it, I’ve been talking to my friend her husband is out for 10 days and home for 4days, they seem to be doing well and enjoying it. LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT, and we want to make it in Canada. My husbands friend says he’s got balls of steel, and I’m glad  or we’d be stuck in this place forever as my boys call it a hell hole.
Do your own thing don’t let anyone put you off.
Rocket

Rocket,
Have you read Steve the bulkers Diairy  (I wish I knew how to do links on a computer!!!)
It is well worth reading for the massive amount of info it contains on moving to Canada and the OTR aspect of it.You are totally wrong if you think he didn’t like it as he was so happy to be there and he told it like it is. The fact he was single with no ties made the move all the easier. But if you do read his tales you will discover that the dream did seem to be turning sour and the problem is we still havn’t had an update since Dec 2005 hence my post today on the subject :exclamation:
I took on alot of his sound advice from his posts on Truckscan (so has Marcustandy) particularly the ones about bringing your family/girlfriend out to the prairie and trying to live on one wage coming in for the first year and the problems he thought would come about because the husband will be gone for such long periods of time compared to UK tramping.
You should also read the post “Yanke” on page 3 on this forum about living on the prairie :exclamation: :exclamation:

Hi Jako
keep saving you may get there one day we thought it an impossibility 2 years ago,now we’re on our way
Thanks for the message and good luck to you and yours for the future will keep you posted
Rocket and family

Big Trucker it’s our decision to go, yours to stay, as i’ve said before LIFE IS TOO SHORT take a chance. My friend in Canada is working all above board, and I hope to do like wise.
Rocket

To all,

Ten days ,two weeks away, thats not so bad, just think about our military boys out there in the middle east,three/four month tours in a country where if you have a bad day,you really do have a bad day.
Yes truckers in Canada maybe away from home for a few weeks, but it really could be a lot worse.

The Gent…Former soldier…

Hi the Gent
My husband is a former soldier also, we were only talking about that today, at least he won’t be away for months at a time. I’m sure we’ll manage,BELIEVE ME,WE WILL
Rocket

Good luck to you. I hope things work out and you are able to stay in Canada. It’s a big move.
The advise about you not being able to work is good. I hope you have some savings to help tide you through the first year till the money is steady.
Will your husband be hauling glass? I understand that BIG FREIGHT got a big glass account several years ago.

Typical BIG FREIGHT unit

Thankyou Bluejaysfan
Rocket

That’s a very nice picture Bluejay and somewhat nostalgic, not just for the flat,
roped and sheeted (well, strapped and sheeted :unamused: ), but for the timbers,
essential for tramping work, stuffed across the landing legs.

Rocket. All the best to you, having taken several leaps in the dark in my career,
I thorougly approve of yours. Big Truck and Marcus are only pointing out the
pitfalls, not trying to put you off, but I think you’ve got the right attitude.

Don’t forget we expect reports, regular and pictorial good or bad.
Even if it doesn’t work out don’t hide away, we won’t laugh, but we would
appreciate the knowledge

Thanks spardo will keep all informed
Rocket
