A bloke came into my local the other night.
Was offering 8 legs of Venison for £40 . . .

I think that’s 2 dear mate

although it could actually be two deer

Lets have some honest signage for a change.

Holy thread resurrection,

Anyway, so I’m at a lane closure to help a tyre fitter get home to his family. The control room sets a lane 1 closure but we decide it is too dangerous to put out a closure. We then come up with a plan but that isn’t important, well it is but not on here.

The issue, a lane 1 closure is set on the signals 1 miles prior to us, I film the traffic for 1 minute whilst stood well out of the way, in 60 seconds 18 cars, trucks and vans come at us in lane 1 56 + mph, had we put any kit out, no doubt we would have had cone and sign strikes at best or an RTC.

Thanks to the Fowler Welch driver who appears around said bend at 56 in lane 1, sees that AT THAT SPLIT SECOND IN TIME that no cones are out and waves his arms in disgust at me as if to say “So where’s the feeccking closure then”. Clearly absolutely and totally no consideration for one second that,

A. I had just put the cones away and the signs were in the process of being turned off,
B. That I was just about to put them out and would have been stood in lane 1 whilst he put my life at risk,
C. That he had ignored the sign put on to protect me whilst I put the kit out in the first place.

He would have had no time AT ALL to move from 1 to 2 at 56 mph with a carriageway full of traffic. There is no point in shouting on here that drivers, especially professional drivers have a lot to answer for as not many truckers actually care a ■■■■ about us, if nothing more its just to highlight, in the 5 seconds you pass us, you have no clue on whats really going on.

Don’t put my life at risk just because your’e too bone idol to drive with safety and courtesy. If the cap fits,

You get on my ■■■■ sometimes :imp: :imp: You spout off all the time about us ignoring signs etc but how many times do we see these signs and nothing is going on :unamused: :unamused: I react to what I can see and adjust speed accordingly and am more alert - 9 out of 10 it’s for nothing…pedestrians in road :unamused: animals in road :unamused: I see them all…incident…slow down :unamused: .

Get the matrix sorted so what it says is true - and don’t give me that crap that the incident/accident/problem must have been sorted just as I get there :unamused:

Instead of giving us your rules and regulations take a step back and look at the rules of the road and our regulations - no one wants to hurt anyone on the road and when I see a vehicle on the hard shoulder I slow down or move over if possible - regardless of no matrix warning  Drivers and screwdrivers come to mind!!! Stop tarring us all with the same brush - or I’ll put on here some gross misconduct occurrences I’ve personally witnessed by your colleagues!

Get out of the ■■■■■■■ job then :unamused: . You go on and on and on about how some artic has always just nearly killed you, but yet you continue going to the same job every day putting yourself in the same situation :unamused: . Anyone with even the smallest amount of common sense would by this point have told themselves “hey I’m not cut out for this, I’m gonna get myself killed, I’m out” but clearly you weren’t in the queue when common sense was being handed out. Thick as ■■■■. :unamused:

Driving down the M6 this morning on my way to the M42 had gone past j6 matrix signs said “lane closures” indicating only lane 1 open and 40mph displayed.
Hence cars vans etc flying past me then trying to cut in, bearing in mind none of us could see said lane closures as a bend was approaching backed off a bit to let the idiots past …
Went round the bend expecting to find cones workmen (yeah right) and what do we find F… All

Great that was thanks for that :imp:

Hint: When the signs say Stranded vehicle/Obstruction/Animals, or any number of other specific legends (or simply say “Incident”), switch to extra-vigilance mode but otherwise carry on as normal. The reason being that these messages are selected by a human, typically acting on information received second-hand, and which may or may not be accurate and/or up-to-date. But if the signs say “Queue Ahead” or “Queue Caution” then pay attention, as these are generated automatically in response to real traffic queues. Unless it’s on the M1 Southbound between J21 and J20, in which case it’s more likely to be a result of a fault…

We appear to be on the same wavelength - tis a pity it’s only us

There was a stranded vehicle on the M1 tonight just past Toddington services with a HATO vehicle behind it. I looked at the matrix boards as I went past the other way and none of them showed a keep right or red X just a reduced 40 limit.
Maybe the fault lies with your control room in this situation - once you are at a scene how do you know for certain what the signs approaching your location say?
Was it you at Toddington?

Top Tip Big Jase

Push for a change in procedures no lane closures for a tyre change unless last resort otherwise always a lift and shift paid for by the haulage co/OD to prevent congestion and delays for other road users just to save someone a few quid, you know it makes sense

Oh and safer all round for everyone .

I never bother asking for signs in my area, they’re either knackered or traffic is so light, I can do a tango in lane 1 with my patrol partner!

speedyguy:
no lane closures for a tyre change unless last resort

Sorry I disagree with that! Definitely agree with lane closure (offside) but would just prefer a mile warning…or maybe a lane closure ahead :bulb: Not a 5 mile ‘incident’ which is unneccassary

Bigger picture why delay thousands with the associated cost to uk plc to save 1 person a few quid

Depending on signs usually spaced a couple of miles apart it will be Incident, lane closure, etc
Biffo could tell you the “run in” signals but as Bosshog says it varies to the odd Central wicket matrix in some rural/backward ■■■■■■■■ :sunglasses: :stuck_out_tongue: areas to full on disco lights every few yards on the M25, M60 etc

I’ll pick on your post as you are the most arrogant and irresponsible of all the reply’s thus far.

dri-diddly-iver:
You spout off all the time about us ignoring signs etc but how many times do we see these signs and nothing is going on :unamused: :unamused:

Probably a lot less times than there actually is something going on

dri-diddly-iver:
I react to what I can see and adjust speed accordingly and am more alert - 9 out of 10 it’s for nothing

And as I said, the FW driver approaching me at 56 had less than 2 seconds to hope that there was a gap alongside him long enough to either not hit a vehicle alongside him or have a car approaching faster in lane 2 that wouldn’t let him in thus causing an RTC

dri-diddly-iver:
Get the matrix sorted so what it says is true - and don’t give me that crap that the incident/accident/problem must have been sorted just as I get there :unamused:

Typical reply of someone who not for one minute has the brain power to realise that at some point, something has to start AND finish. How many times have you guys on here assumed that a crash happened in a particular way without knowing any of the facts? Plenty.

dri-diddly-iver:
no one wants to hurt anyone on the road

Yet you all keep coming at full pelt “THINKING” you can react in time as your’e SO professional.

dri-diddly-iver:
Stop tarring us all with the same brush

Read last comment on my post “If the cap fits,” (to give you a hint, of the 200 or so trucks that passsed me, 70% had moved over and I thank them for that)

dri-diddly-iver:
I’ll put on here some gross misconduct occurrences I’ve personally witnessed by your colleagues!

Ooh promises, do it then.

At the end of the day, you DO put mine and many other peoples lives potentially at risk by doing what you do, I am sure youv’e all seen Traffic Cops or Road Wars and have seen debris on the road or crashes or live lane breakdowns so you all know it goes on everywhere daily. Just because you drive all day everyday and “See” everything, it doesn’t mean you have the right to put people at risk.

You move over due to a lane closure and there isn’t anything there, diddums but you’ve done the right thing, still get home on time and can glow inside, alternatively, you ignore the signs, hit the car, debris or what ever or at worse kill someone and you only have youself to blame.

m1cks:
They’re certainly missing a trick with these boards. With all the camera technology available they should target specific cars with messages.
‘Would the muppet in the rover in lane 2 move over out of everyone’s way’
‘The chav in the saxo turn your front fogs off, you look like a ■■■’
Imagine the fun you could have in the control room.

‘Could all BMW drivers stop being utter ■■■■■ on the road’

Would a reply to my post last night be out the question?

Now now nick. I made a perfectly feasable counter argument and was wondering what Jace’s take on it was. Lets face it, we’d rather hear it from hin than Biffo the clown

‘Could all BMW drivers stop being utter [zb] on the road’

I must say that when faced with a tractor today on a dual carriageway a friendly BMW driver let me out. Probably not his own car though but non the less I was most surprised and gratefull.

Course I would have let him / her past till a safe lane change was available
