Ken.

Some hate it. Some love it.

I only got a brief spell but I loved it. Easiest work I’ve ever done.

Get job, hitch up, go to shop, back onto bay, have a bit of nosh in the canteen, chill out while they tip, drive back to base, finish up.

I did night runs and rarely got more than 3 stores on a load.

The biggest problem was the roller door runners freezing up when it rained, and listening to the whinging drivers who hated how hard it was working for such ball-breakers…

Where are Morrisons RDCs in the south of england ?. Is all there distribution “in house” ?.

did morrisons stores when i was on with gagewell. they get priority at the stores and the drivers just pull on the bays and wait in the canteen while they’re getting tipped.
all the drivers i spoke to enjoyed it.

i,m not sure there is any i think there is one in yate , when they took over safeway they closed the two southern safeway depots at bristol and aylesford .and built a new rdc at kettering i think you can probably cover most areas from there.

They are opening a new depot in Sittingbourne

Surely they don’t do devon and cornwall from kettering ?

they got a newish place in swindon round the back of honda

im just guessin, but thet may do s.west from yate? :unamused:
also depots at bellshill, stockton, wakefield, northwich, northants.never see em rushin?

Former work mate is on for them running out of Swindon, in a nutshell, good money and the jobs “a doddle” - no reason to disbelieve him by the way

Ex Haulier:

aren’t they still running out of Cullompton

Safeway used to do those from Bristol as well, so I would have thought they do them from their Yate depot now?

I heard the reason they closed the ex Safeway depot at Cribbs Causeway near Bristol and moved it to Yate was to start with a new set of drivers who wouldn’t be in the union, as they had a history of disputes at Cribbs. Only rumour, but it came from someone at work who has a brother- in- law who used to work at Cribbs but wasn’t offered the chance to transfer to Yate.
My stepson used to do the occasional agency driving job for Safeway when they were at Cribbs and he said it was nearly as good as when he went to Asda at Portbury. (ie no rushing around)

I heard the same.

They do have an RDC in Willand, run by TDG.It does mainly the frozen for the south west and wales plus fresh for devon and cornwall. Also inter depot trunking. Worked there myself when it was safeway. Only depot where you found out what you were doing the next day before you went home. Pick your own start time if available, none of this seniority lark they have elsewhere!!!
