More revenue raising

This ‘Lets pretend it’s for road safety’ thing is working great.
(Some actually believe it :open_mouth:   )

Bit of PR, bit of ‘seeing to be doing the right thing’, and hey…maybe it will slow one or two down… but mainly, making an absolute ■■■■ mint. :sunglasses:
You’ve got to admire them eh?
Absolute brilliance.

I’ve just booked my holiday in Cyprus.

Love the way they try hard to justify it, an d sell it… and at the same time throw people of the scent of the true agenda, by focusing the report on (maybe the only) extreme example of the 1 guy doing 70 in a 30…no mention of the hundreds just over the tolerance limit though funnily enough

Makes me think of in cab cameras and how we are told its ‘for our own good’ by focusing on the one guy who was vindicated in an rta, but failing to mention the thousands that have been caught drinking their skinny lattes, thus on a disciplinary .

The great British propaganda pr machine at it’s best.
I’m grateful to God (afternoon Sploomy  ) for my self cynicism and lack of gullibility…you see things MUCH more clearly that way…

Ding! Ding! Round 2…
Sploom, you were right, Rob does need saving, you just need to try a bit harder this time around.

We have more camera surveillance than anywhere else in the world, giving speed cameras the ability of a typical mobile phone with both forwards and backwards facing cameras was only to be expected.

Kerching.

I’d argue that is in fact incorrect and the winner is China by some margin. Google suggests 200 million cameras in operation in China.

Germany 50 million and USA 5.2 million and UK next at 5 million.

Although not sure if those figures include speed cameras or if they are even up to date or accurate.

Ok, but I wonder how that 5 mill canera figure equates to size and area of other countries ratio in comparison.
Only 0.2 mill fewer than the whole of the US ? :open_mouth:

I have a cunning plan to beat these revenue raisers… use the speedo.

That is very true when talking about population and land density. Like I said in terms of amount I would argue the point. Against population and land size then who knows.

I’m going to shock you by agreeing with you :open_mouth: Yes, really!

TBH I’ve got only a little sympathy with people who get points and fines for speeding: I had a speed awareness course once (about 15 years ago), and later within the same three years got three points. Both times were due to my own lack of observation of changed speed limits (40mph down to 30mph), because I was being pushed about “what time are you going to get there?” I stopped listening to “the office” and had no more problems.

Anyway, at least speed cameras are a topic I can relate to, unlike all the whinging about the ULEZ expansion. I recall clearly how “the south” reacted to complaints from “the north” during Thatcher’s years of misrule: It’s a bit different when the boot is on the other foot isn’t it? “Ner ner ner-ner ner…” as some might say

Why can’t we have a face-palm emoji? You would take “advice” from that guy would you?
News flash - none of what he is talking about are “taxes”.

National Lottery is unlikely to make you rich? M&S items are more expensive than Lidl? Credit card debt is an expensive form of debt? Costa-Starbucks is an expensive fashion item?
Is this news to you?

For my generation (and locality) this kind of fiscal common sense was “learned at your mother’s knee”.

Looks like I’ve felt into most of the idiot tax/non tax trap then eh? :unamused:

In mitigation in a lot of cases (as in most things in my life) I try and get around the system, whilst actually not complying but appearing to for various reasons.

National Lottery…Guilty as charged. banged to rights.
Eternal optimist/total mug.
8 quid a week,.plus entering tv comps ( whilst watching Holly Willoughby  ), and radio ‘Make me a winner’ comps.
All to virtually no avail. :unamused:

M&S meals?..Nah strictly an Asda/Aldi man.

Designer labels?..One of the ‘appearing to’, examples, by having a contact who deals in snide fake designer gear at a fraction of the price.
So I’m yer actual.‘Poundshop Poser’ .

Overpriced coffee. …got a bit of a scam going on…nuff said.

HP.& credit?..Nah learned the hard way after going bust in a previous life.
No general credit card use for me…(maybe except if I want to pay for something for the security and protection that a debit card does not provide though ).
Both cars paid for,.neither brand new but both good and adequate cars that do the same job as a brand new one but at a fraction of the price,.and paid for in a 1er.
Anything I want I pay for,.although I am occasionally a fan of interst free credit.

Some of the reasons in fact that I can afford to work only 4 days on a max 50 hour or so week in fact,…without having to run ragged towards my first heart attack. :bulb:

Yes ,the lotto must be the biggest waste but that “make me a winner”,if you don’t answer within five rings and then, when you do,you have to say"make me a winner",but if you don’t say that, you miss the chance,as I understand it
