Montreal News

Two bits of news from Montreal for those that dont know yet.

  1. The Flying J in Vaudreuil on the western side of the city closed down on January 1st. No idea why just yet or wether another one will be opening or indeed someone else taking the current one over. I havent been passed yet but have been led to believe its all fenced off with no access at all for parking. If anyone is interested I’ll do a follow up to this with some other parking suggestions in or near Montreal when I get home next and have a bit of time to find addresses and such like.

  2. The A30 ring road around Montreal is now open, with a toll of $5.75 to get over the bridge at the far end, near the before mentioned Flying J (or what once was). This means anyone coming from Toronto or Ottawa and going further east wont need to go through the middle anymore, also if you’ve got a drop on the eastern side of the river in Boucherville etc. I’ll be using it for my first time in the morning but friends have told me its a decent bit of road and saves all the agro of going through.

Although the head office won’t confirm it, the Flying J gas station in Vaudreuil-Dorion will close by the end of the year.

Employees were telling patrons of the impending closure last week. However, spokespeople for the U.S.-based chain said the company had no comments to make about that particular station.

“Flying J has no comment at this time,” said Cynthia Moxley from the communications firm Moxley Carmichael, which represents Flying J.

She wouldn’t say whether the company planned to move the station, but there are rumours a new Flying J station will be situated on Highway 30 in the area, which will act as a bypass for trucks who wish to avoid driving on the island of Montreal. Highway 30 is set to open Dec. 15.

Sad news :frowning:
Having spent a day and night there a few months back and finding it it to be one of the better Flying J’s I am quite upset by this :frowning:
