Right at the risk of kicking up a storm here what is it with the mods lately. I notice that fool truckerspal’s comments on the truckers on bicycles thread was removed. He likened getting a trucker on a bicycle to getting an elephant knitting. Yet when I and others report homophobic stuff we get fobbed off. If your a ■■■■■ it’s fine, removed straight away, ditto if you repeat often mild rumours about company’s, but if your gay your left to deal with the crap rained down on you on your own.
I can take and return jokes and ■■■■ taking in the right place, I have done often enough, but not when my being gay is used to hijack people’s threads. It’s embarrassing.
To be honest if I stop posting it won’t be because these people like truckerspal give me grief, they come and go, but it’ll be because the mods never do anything about. So I’m left to mop up stupid crap posted by a endless stream of idiots on my own with no back up.

I mostly just read these boards on my phone via Tapatalk these days, even when on my network at home, and I can’t mod while using that so I don’t do much in the way of modding these days. Can’t really be of much assistance old chap but I do see your point.

Luke you’ve been here long enough now to know that moderation is virtually non-existent and we are basically left to get on with it. Now in general I like that because the vast majority of folks here are adult enough to know where the ‘invisible’ boundaries are and for the most part keep within them. However, there are others like your newfound friend who have no desire to play nicely and just want to act like a ■■■■ etc and this is exactly the time and point where ‘moderation’ should be coming in with their big sticks and getting rid of the problem. Unfortunately it rarely happens…
FWIW I agree with all your points above and I have been in two frames of mind whether to ‘report’ some of the more unpleasant stuff he’s been saying to you/about you, but first, it’s nowt to do with me, and second, you’re intelligent enough to deal with his childishness yourself through a few choice words, so thus far I’ve kept out of it. But it should not get to this point in the first place…

I agree Luke, it does seem to be open season for gay-bashing lately. I have reported a few posts, the same as for unpleasant racist comments or blatant rumours about companies being in the ■■■■. I know you can hold your own (oo-er), but you shouldn’t need to. As far as I can see, if it don’t get reported it definitely won’t get acted on…

Although guilty of lightweight banter on the subject, it has been rolled forward and another subject appears to poke, point, argue over or generally ignore.
I do agree with your original points, whether it is the school holidays that are allowing all these dimwits to log on their computers, whether the dimwits just follow any busy sites or whether the dimwits just don’t know what they are doing.
Moderation is often over the top, in things like company rumours, unkind truths or hearsay, but often overlooked when it is clearly a troll posting or another alternative user name. HM likened them to 13 year olds, I think they are at best very immature.
Having said that. I would hate to have to moderate this site and stay impartial.

He’s the one who should be embarrassed. Unfortunately that takes some self-awareness of how your comments are viewed by others, and he does not seem to be aware that he is the one making a fool of himself. I don’t think any of his posts are taken seriously any more, even if he did inadvertantly say something interesting
I too have been amazed at the stuff recently posted - no point me saying ‘rise above it’ because you already do! But I can understand how tiresome this is becoming.

I was on holiday last week so not around much - I have just taken a look and seen that as a result of complaints recieved, a few people have had their ability to post freely removed… and a number of their posts that had been reported removed… many hours hours before this topic was posted,
I have looked at the logs and can see no reports outstanding.
It looks to me like the mods and admins have been doing something …
If there is still issues that have not been sorted then please use the report button on the post concerned.

Well there are no outstanding reports because the mods fob them off. I reported one of his posts and it was closed and the post allowed to stand. On the gay truckers thread I reported and pointed out a post that was very offensive and in fact illegal, I even posted a link to the law making it illegal, and got a reply that it doesn’t affect the mod so it can stay. This was even said on the forum. So I assume one of the mods is a ■■■■■ then because that got removed quickly enough. Your all too obsessed with protecting companies and gypsies feelings and removing those posts while I get treated to a torrent of crap.
I’d like to think I contribute quite a lot to this forum but it feels like nobody that runs it gives a crap how I’m treated sometimes. I think I may be over forums full stop.

I was watching the idiots posts last night, and it appeared you were handling it ok without needing a mods help ( remember we often get criticized for being heavy handed )
This morning it got worse and posted a load of irrelevant drivel, so before I went out I put a member on premod and deleted several of his posts, including the one you mentioned , If I have missed any of them please let me know !

Doesn’t take away from the fact I later pointed out his post was illegal. Your scared to death of libel laws because companies Might be upset but maybe you need to be more even in your approach. It still stands that I reported Truckerspal’s post and it was just fobbed off.
And also what made it worse is truckerspal hijacked a post about one of my former employers to make a stupid and embarrassing comment about my being gay. It’s becoming an issue and I don’t want that so I’ll be posting less. He may be on premod but they just keep coming. Plus I understand he’s a long term member who set up another account to create grief. He’ll be back.
