MODEL TRUCKS

wirralpete:
what make is it mate? any pics you have of it?

m and g mouldings make a thames trader with a separate flatbed body. dont know if your dads was a 4 wheeler but have a look at this site

mgmouldings.co.uk/kit_selection.htm

yeah mate ive got 1 pic of the truck he used to drive it was a volvo fl6 18ton rigid its the old style on a P plate and its only of the side and the front tried looking for the sizes on the internet but nothing came up dont think im gonna be able to do it

have a look on this site public.fotki.com/modeltrucks25th … _f16_1987/ plenty of reference pics mate.

also KFS done a generic chassis kit here kitformservices.com/tq.html scroll down to tn88 and click on the photo.

if you have a side on picture then it shouldnt be too hard to work out where the axles go mate.

i would build up the chassis add front axle then put fuel tank, battery boxes where they appear in the picture you should then be able to gauge where the rear axle/axles should sit

Leyland Terrier, British Rail Mess Wagon:

The wheels, diff and seats in the cab are from old kits, the rest is built from scratch:

Inside the van body:

Cheers

Ian

ahhh the fl6,
may be a bit harder to do but dont give up,
italeri did do a volvo fire truck here

if you can find one on the internet may be a good base for starting your dads model mate

yet another great build ian,
and modelling it on a BR truck really makes it look the part!

Hi Chaps,
As there is a model trucks page I thought I would post some pics of the ones I have built for my 4mm (1.76) scale layout of my Melton Mowbray Station circa 1981-82.

The Leyland Roadtrain tractor unit. I built this on a Road Transport Images chassis and 5th wheel with a Base Toys cab plus scratchbuilt mirrors, run-up ramps, airlines etc. The curtainside trailer is an R.T.I kit which I converted from tri-axle to tandem. I left the mudguards off and fitted large mudflaps typical of trailers of the period .

The Volvo F88 is also an R.T.I kit, to which I have added mirrors, wipers, catwalk etc. The 40ft flat trailer is scratch built and uses R.T.I wheels.

The E.R.F A series is built using R.T.I cab, chassis and wheels. The body is scratchbuilt from plasticard and transfers were supplied by Paul Robson. This model is copied from the actual lorry which is pictured somewhere on this website.

The Guy Big J8 is a Corgi trackside model. I have extended the sides, fitted mirrors and wipers and have weathered it.

nice work on the trackside stuff wal!

im still plodding on with the cf, less done this weekend due to a illness in the family.

still today saw me at at loose end after the g/f had pop round on her lunch break, so after waving her bye bye i was up the stairs! :d/
decided to crack on with the plumbing and as the cf has a catwalk fitted ive concentrated around the rear of the chassis, valves were scratchbuilt with the plumbing hoses themselves being solder wire. detailed the rear airtanks with boltheads too.

got home friday to find parcel from KFS containing ad blue set, suspension and low loader wheels.

duly gave them all a good wash in washing up liquid and all was looking good when i primered them, all went pearshaped when i painted the parts though, lots of silicone still on some parts so more stripping and cleaning.
suspension was ok though so i fitted then i realised i had messed up my calculations!, fuel tank needed cutting down some more and filling in, whilst there i added DAF lettering to the side.
tool boxes on the other side are to big also, so will be knocking up two smaller ones to fit.
extra airtanks have been fitted just forward of the drive axle and more bolthead detail added.

now suppose i had better get work stuff sorted instead of chilling on the couch! ](*,)

cattle wagon man:
Hi LB 76,
Thats a nice model of Charles Alexanders Leyland Beaver and drawbar trailer , possibly ready for loading with boxes of fish. I am unsure if C. A. operated any drawbar trailers , but modellers licence allows such a construction or conversion. A couple of years ago , I was asked by a former C. A. driver to construct a model cattle float ( thats the Scottish name for a cattle box ) . I am unsure if C. A. were still transporting livestock in the 1970 `s , or if they had 3 deck floats .
I scratchbuilt these two to fit directly onto the Corgi Leyland Octopus 8 wheeler flat.

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Very nice mate
cheers
John

I posted some pics of my first attempt at modelling. with the Iveco 190-48 with the fridge van. i then decided to re-create a M.A.N. tractor with a step frame carpet box van. You cannot get a step frame chassis, so i had to scratch build the whole trailer. it didn,t come out too bad. after doing a couple of my own early motors, my next job was 2 years with Chapman &Ball. so i decided to do a couple of models of their trucks, Problems arose as i could not locate any tandem spread axles, so, i had to build a tri axle tilt. The Daf was one i used to have myself, because i could not find Fiat 619, or F88 Volvo kits, so i did Daf and have nearly finished a Scania 142, i will pos that soon. till then these are my attempts—

Hello Ian I love the British Rail Leyland and the detail in the interior great how about a burnt slice o toast Great stuff again, Keep On Doing It Ian you have it cracked. Eddie.

hi terry

those are spot on mate, realy like the daf though as used to drive one of them meself on uk brick & block or owt that would go on the trailer  well until me accident that is :frowning:

no luck with the tandem axle trailer then.

cheers

Is there a kit available that i could have a go at making a model of my wagon with a flatbed trailer

hi bigrig

there is a kit for your unit but not in 6x2 guise, there’s one in 4x2 configuration or a 6x4 config, but you could buy a 6x2 conversion kit made in resin from either kit form services or m&g mouldings & convert one. but if you have never built a truck model before then this could be quite difficult, & there’s not an actual tri-axle flat trailer but you could convert one from either a tilt, fridge or curtainsider trailers that are available.

let me know if you need any other info.

cheers
gaz

Just a couple of pictures of my latest build

it still has to have the 12 cars added yet but it nearing completion now

I think that is great stretch!

Thanks mate

hey bigrig

i have just had a thought, for some unkown reason i thought that you were talking about making a model in 1/24 scale, all what i said is true in this scale, but you could make one in 1/50 scale very easily,i dont know why i didnt tell you this yesterday as its the scale that i work in   :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: i hate getting older.

anyway you can buy quite a cheap corgi man 6x2 of ebay & strip it down, strip the paint off & repaint it, i have done quite a few of these in the past & you can also by a flatbed trailer too in this scale, let me know if you need any help or more info.

cheers
gaz

dont they do pallets in 1.50 to gaz?,
would make a great load for you model bigrig
