Hello everybody!
I am an Italian collector of classical toys. Up to now I have gathered some 3,500 items, mostly model trains and model cars. I’m going to expose all of them in a building I have bought with the aim of making a Museum dedicated to the history of toys.
Here is a rendering of the Cars Hall of the Museum, with a very big fresco on the side wall
I am also trying to collect a satisfactory documentation about each single toy and its builder. Beside it, as each toy is a representation of a real life thing, I try to gather information about the real life prototype of the toy and, of course, its builder.
My problem is that is not easy, in Italy, to find information about the prototypes of model trucks built, for instance, by Dinky Toys.
So, I am here to ask for your help: is there anyone who can tell me something about the specs of Bedford TK? Or Guy Vixens? Or Leyland Octopus?
Let’s start with these three, for the moment. And thanks a lot for any help.

Theres a model section on the old time forum m8
Thank you for the suggestion, I’ll try to watch at this forum, if you kindly explain to me where have I to look for it.
I beg you pardon: I’m not too much experienced with the matter, neither I am with English language.
Beside it, I do not need news about models. I need news about the real things they reproduce.
I’m the only Italian member of Dinky Toys Collector Association. That helped me so much regarding toys, but
not at all with prototypes.
According to you, which could be the best way to know something about old Guys, Fodens, Bedfords, Leylands
and many more british trucks I have in 1/43 size?
Thank for your help. Here is a picture of a small part of my collection…
If you have a look in the Old Time Lorries, Companies and Drivers Section you will find a lot of the answers there as there are already topics on Leyland, Foden, Guy etc. Or just start a new topic in that section and post some pictures of what models you have, you should get some answers as most Dinky Toys were modelled on real companies vehicles. I had a lot of Dinky lorries but alas I sold most of them, still have a few left though. Oh and your English is good so do not worry about that.
Pete.
If I understand you correctly, this is the sort of thing you’re looking for…
You will find a little history about the truck and owner elsewhere on T’Net.
Take a look in the Old Time Lorries forum - ‘Robert Dods Brown’ and ‘Astran/Middle East drivers’ threads.

Correct!! You got the point. My best compliments for the model.
I’m going to follow your suggestion: start a new subject in the old trucks forum.
You have been very kind. I’m sorry because you have sold out your Dinky Toys. If you ever
come to Italy, you can drop in my place and have a look to many dear memories of the old good times…
Regard to Middle East, have a look at these: they are the real things and the models of the cars
whith which I traveled from Italy to India, in 1971 and 1974!
It’s nice that you’ve built models that you can relate to. I try to follow the same principal myself, though not always!
Here’s another Corgi model, as well as a cutting of one of the originals that may have been the inspiration.
Thank you, GB1,
if you are interested to this matter, you can follow it in the new topic I have started in OLD TIME LORRIES, COMPANIES AND DRIVERS section. Thanks again, and come to visit me and be my guest in Piticchio, Ancona, Italy.
Regards, Gianni
