Whilst driving up the M20 this afternoon i was having a conversation with coffeeholic.
I was using the handsfree kit supplied in the truck …
Then a police car came along side me …
I looked down at the passenger in the car and
he was holding a PDA kind of device and looking at me…
I said to Neil … " I am about to get a tug here mate "
He said “what”
Then my phone went " dead " plenty of battery but no signal ! I still have no signal and before you start i have paid my bill !
Orange thinks it may be a fault with the handset . ( Nokia N96)
I have tried to contact Neil but i cant get hold of him . On his land line or his mobile !
I have also spoke to my boss and he told me that he was back at 1930
One of my friends had one of these. When we were youngn’s, we used to have so much fun disrupting conversations in train carriages. They’re illegal, but it wouldn’t suprise me if the police were using one for an instant remedy for stopping numpties (edit - not directed at you as you were on hands free!) using phones whilst driving, saves going out in the cold
When Jim got cut off I heard a recorded message saying - “This call has been terminated by Kent Police, please hang up.”
I aint calling him back or answering his calls, one or both of us might get arrested and I’ve got a busy weekend planned. Nah, I have spoken to him a few minutes ago.
Brilliant piece of kit, I bought one a couple of years ago, knocks out phone signals within a 30 metre radius. Also had a a device that knocked out GPS tracking systems, great if your vehicle is fitted with a tracker
On a serious note, what laws do the police use to jam phone signals? I know they can jam phone signals in suspected acts of terrorism, as some bombs can be detonated by phone.
Are the police using anti-terror laws against lorry drivers?

I hadn’t though of it until you mentioned it but Jim has been known to drive wearing a balaclava so that could be it.
He has also been spotted driving wearing an afro wig, extra, extra large sunglasses or a pink hi-viz, sadly on some occasions all at the same time. You never know what to expect when you see him coming the other way.
Note - The use of jamming equipment is prohibited in some countries. It is the responsibility of the customer to ensure that they have the legal right to import these products before purchasing from us. Upon purchasing, the customer becomes wholly liable for any legal issues that may occur as a result of the importation and/or use of these products in the destination country.
Note for UK customers: jamming equipment is illegal to use in the UK as it violates section 8 of the 2006 Wireless Telegraphy Act, we are therefore unable to supply jammers to any UK customer with the exception of certain military and government departments who have the necessary authorisation from the UK Office of Communications (Ofcom). Please note that no exceptions can be made on this policy.
dont think the old bill has any right to use anything like that as you could have been on the blower to an emergancy service regardless where you are

Tiger.
Could be a pain if you are using sat-nav at the same time.

if it was a factory fitted hands free kit how did the old bill know he was on the phone? could of just been singing along to his radio or even having a rant at jeremy whine(other idiot dj’s are available). or am i alone in doing this?
edited to say: surely it is illegal to damage your phone when they do this
Just a thought and I don’t want to scare you, but do you think they were bona fida coppers, were they driving the usual marked up Volvo/BMW 5 type patrol car.
I don’t know what you cart around but they could have been some low life scum getting ready to do you over, they disabled your phone to prevent calling for advice or help, but realised you had been using it when you clocked them, and changed their mind.
It seems as though we are moving towards a Police state sometimes, but I don’t think things are that bad that the cops can disable phones willy nilly, well not yet .

Would they knock out the Parking Eye cameras Moto have put up at some services, now that would be worth investing in one for

It was, according to Jim, a regular marked up Kent traffic police car with uniformed officers in it.

I don’t know what you cart around
Neither do we. It DHL and it’s all parcels, who the hell knows what’s in 'em.
If that jammer is real and can be limited on its range then I have an idea -
Fit it to all vehicles and have it automatically activated when the handbrake is off and scrap the current law
No more phone calls of any sort whilst driving
No more prosecuting drivers on phones when stopped
