Dennis best one at the moment,if you look closley my 4 year old asleep on the bonnet, didnt sleep long when bobtailing home!!!

Spot on that shot ,just as I remember them! I bet the little fella got a rude awakening when you set off!! They were somewhat a “solid” ride not coupled to a loaded trailer!!! Cheers Dennis.

hi dennis, just wondering if you specced your atkis with autolube.Mine wasnt working on my silver knight, but turned out it was a broken drive lug from the speedo.working ok now,by the way my dad never trusted autolubes as he said the only time you realised it wasnt working was when something was siezed when you came to remove it-also he was a great advocate of the grease gun as he said you spotted other things when lay on your back of a saturday afternoon[even though it was my job as a 5 year old]regards jamie

Hiya Atkiman, yes I was a great believer in autolubes in the early years especially when I didn’t have a full time fitter. All you had to do was grease the prop which avoided having to spend time creeping round under the motor on a Saturday afternoon for one thing !! I fitted Tecalamit auto lube to my D1000,my brothers KE/TK and the little Albion. The Two Mastiff’s had an air operated system but not Tecalamit ( can’t just recall the name at present). All the new Borderers were fitted with Tecalemit and the A series ERF’s.The main reason I stopped fitting autolubes was we started to get tyre cases which had been sent for Bandag retreads rejected because of oil impregnation, even after they’ed been on a trailer for a year or so to run them off.We also had full time fitters by this time so regular greasing was easier!! Then when we started getting the Scandinavian motors they were far better designed and held the grease far better than the British motors,I’m sad to say !! But on balance,I liked the autolube and it did work well for us despite the tyre problems.here’s a shot of the back of one of our Atki’s and you can see the Tecalamit resevoir next to the power steering header tank,Cheers Dennis.

dennis was the air operated system mecafluid,we restored an erf 54g fitted with this, the control box was behind the drivers seat, chassis vab sat in a field 16 years, cleaned connections worked no problem-it is the interlube sysyem fitted to mine reservoir is the same as yours gearbox driven with an air feed

A shot here of two Bewick Atkis on Tilbury dock, the Tecalamit resevoirs can clearly be seen on the back of each cab !!

wheeltapper:

A fine shot of a fine motor, only the drive axle lets the shot down,it’s a Seddon Group axle, pass the bucket please !!! Cheers bewick.

A new Seddon 32/4 stood in the yard in Milnthorpe village, the autolube resevoir visible on the far side of the cab,we also fitted a Dynair fan to this ■■■■■■■ engined motor.New from Longfield Road Motors it was a cracking motor for us,it was double shifted for the first couple of years then it was re-painted and went onto the Henry Cooke contract.

Here’s a pair of Atki’s taken at the Tyne Tees Run many years ago. I don’t think BRS Parcels would have had many loads on a flat trailer, but it shows the difference between the Mk1 and Mk2 Atki. regards Kev.

Correction!! Sorry it’s a Borderer not a Mk2.

Not so sure it is/was a Borderer really. I’ve heard it said that it started as a tractor and was rebuilt by staff at Lynx Parcels to depict a BRS Parcels wagon. As already stated, I’m not sure how that would be possible with a flat body on it - surely they could’ve used a box-van while they had it in bits?

I’m sure there are some pictures somewhere of this wagon in the black Lynx livery - maybe even as a recovery vehicle; although that might just be my memory playing tricks on me. It certainly has a dubious history anyway.
