Muckaway:
I don’t know why artic mixers aren’t used over here? I know they’d be restricted to certain sites but with a sleeper cab fitted, I bet someone could find work with one?

seen this a few times around leicester a few years back, but havent seen it for a while.think he had a tipping trailer aswell when the concrete was quiet.

There are artic mixers being used in this country quite regularly. Haslem Hire uses them. They had 3 on constant hire with Tarmac at Bridgwater plant last year when the Morrisons Distribution centre on the side of the M5 was being built. They carry 11m3. We didnt see the point in them because they took twice as long as a 6m3 truck to load under a pan mixer and twice as long to blow in the steel fibres on site. 2x6ms were quicker and obviously easier to manoevre on site.

11 metres thats a lot of concrete to load and tip,bet they dont do many loads in a day.most of the sites we go to youd never get on with a artic.

They are only used on the biggest jobs like Morrisons at Bridgwater. There was 60,000cube in there in 12 months. The internal floors were 35,000. they did 5 loads a day each which soon adds up. They might be up at Tesco`s new distribution centre near Reading at the mo. Theres 500cube minimum a day going in there.

Haslems artics were working for Cemex out of Hardwick, running to Laing O’Rourkes’ site at the old Infirmary, Oxford. They did a lot out of Leamouth Plant to Southampton docks.

When the truck was ordered all the weights were put together and it should have been carrying 8m with a bit to spare.
The Renault chassis is light weight.
I weighed in with 8m(wet load)at 32180kg full of diesel(250l) and 350l water. I carry 7.5m until Tarmac buy me alloy wheels. Alloys were a £2000 extra but were not seen as a requirement at the time. I get paid 8m rates anyway.

We only load our mixers up to 7.5m3 in Scotland. Saying that, most are Scanias which are fairly heavy.

Not the fastest lap of the day.
