Is it possibly to dim or brighton the rear view screen of Actros mirrorless truck? Drove one last week, vehicle that were coming from behind came across as if it was foggy on the screen.
Haste these things!
Did a search but could not find an answer, sure it has been covered before.
Not sure if it’s possible, but I feel your pain my friend. Two weeks ago I drove a mirrorless DAF for a week. Coming down a slip road to join the A1 in the dark all I could see in the monitors was a glow from behind. I knew there were multiple vehicles there, I couldn’t tell what they were, how fast they were travelling, what lane they were in. I had to just indicate and hope for the best. Completely unacceptable in my opinion.
I had one a few weeks back too and one screen (drivers) was decidedly worse than the other one.
I mentioned to a driver who told me that had been defected previously as the nearside one had been replaced previously so was newer than the drivers screen, but the mechanics check them during the daylight hours where the crappier image doesn’t appear to be a problem.
Yes, I did wipe the camera over too.
I’ve been in XF new gens all week this week and not had that kind of issue at all. It does take a bit of getting used to, but I think too many older drivers no offence intended write them off before actually understanding how to use them and give them a chance. People don’t like change
That sound’s like a faulty one mate. Granted I’ve never drove a Daf with them but the Mercs I drove were faultless for me. Maybe I got a fleet of good ones
For some reason always cocked up backing under a trailer using them though lol, for tracking the trailer I found them great.
I had my misconception the I was looking to leave but wanted to try a mirrorless XG out ,
Cut long story short still there , been in XG since October coming out of a MAN TGX 520 but had the get up and go of a teenager and the lungs of a smoker
My 450 Turners spec XG beats the pants off the MAN
Ps my firm is part owned by turners I don’t work for turners direct
Me and the current driver do have our suspicions about that as there’s no adaptive cruse control either and the auto braking threshold got lower each inspection
Just to add when reversing I have found if your straight via the off side cam then you are straight. If you’re straight via the nearside cam you’re more pis..d than Oliver reed
It is not about not liking change it is about them not really being suitable for purpose, during good day conditions they are great, better than mirrors, at night and in poor, rainy conditions they are poor, very poor.
Funnily enough I drive them at night so I can say quite easily apart from the odd occasion you are talking complete and utter tosh about them being poor at night, they are generally very good at night and even in the rain apart from odd occasions, but stop and clean them and all is well again. Same as I drive DAF’s every night and rarely have the day da ding either, usually when someone has encountered an issue and ignored it rather than defect it.
So yet again I’m sorry but I disagree with you from experience.
Mirror cams are useless when trying to reverse into very bright or low sunlight. You effectively reverse blind & that’s the only time I wish I had conventional mirrors
