Mirroless

So stopped at Stafford services today walking back to truck see an antenna thing sticking out bonnet on truck next to me.
Driver came over said yeah it’s new thing replaces the downward front mirror.
What a stupid idea now instead of looking at mirror thats more or less in your driving vision you now have look at a screen located godknows where taking your eyes off the road…
What is this obsession with cameras instead of mirrors?

£££
What else would it be?

The front camera is way more useful than the crappy mirror it replaces and screen is inside the cab at the top left. It gives a much better viewer of the front of the truck and also the left corner.

It does suffer a bit with rain sitting on the lens but if a one driver truck a little rain x would solve that issue.

Having used both mirrors and mirrored they both have pros and cons, but mirror less like it or not do give a better view generally.

Have had a couple of issues with mirror less but generally ours are pretty reliable cue the of the camera goes you stuck existing for a fitter. No different if someone wipes your mirror out and you are in the same boat.

The only thing with mirror cams is it easy to knock them on low hanging branches as you can’t see where they are as they are high up above the windows. But again they have a power fold for resetting them but you do have to stop to fold them or at least be moving very slowly.

Much easier to have a clear view as they don’t need cleaning constantly like normal mirrors.

Yep been a convert since October , been driving an XG since then before that only mirrored trucks and find them a lot easier

Yes, but can you check your bouffant in them?

One of our drivers got towed back to soton from london the other week as his mirror cam suddenly packed in before he got to his first store. They can suffer from fog spots (maybe condensation inside the housing??) They’re useless reversing into bright or low sun as your reversing blind. They skew your perspective. Night vision is great, overtaking is easy with the trailer length set up.

Thats the only issue with them for me

The reason is instead of going to a local garage to fix a broken mirror (£20?)
You have to go to Mercedes, Daf or whoever and pay 1500 plus fitting
