Just had this through from the RHA, for anyone using Spanish ports.
A member has reported this morning that there is a definite increase to the migrant activity in Bilbao, and several unaccompanied trailers had migrants removed from them last night. More migrants were detected by UKBF this morning in Portsmouth.
Brittany Ferries comment that ‘all vehicles leaving our Spanish ports of Bilbao and Santander have been systematically checked by the Guardia Civil and local police prior to embarkation, in order to protect Brittany Ferries’ freight customers from intrusions into their vehicles by migrants. These checks are ongoing and security around the port has been increased in recent days. We continue to press the Port of Bilbao authority to provide yet more resources to counter this persistent and common threat.’
Whilst Calais continues to be the prime port for migrant attempts to get to the UK, it’s clear that other ports are being targeted and drivers need to be vigilant.
